How will David Haye be best remembered?
How will David Haye be best remembered?
Given the Fury fight is off and Haye appears to be retired, how will he be best remembered?
One of the many comical moments for me was when he was training for the Klitschko fight and Sky showed footage of him training and Booth was jabbing at him with a fake long arm, trying to replicate the Klitschko jab.

For me, the pull outs, the bore feast with Valuev and the Audley pretend grudge match outweigh all the good he did. A flat track bully. Couldn't wait to get in with Enzo but crapped himself with Wlad. A total command, too. Honestly couldn't care less about his fans. Anyone who has bought a ticket to see his dinner shows must be mental.

A special talent,The best cruiser we have ever produced by a mile and a very good heavyweight.
Been watching haye since he was in a vest and a headguard so quite sad to see that the journey is now over but there's been some great times along the way.
I prefer to remeber his cruiserweight days as the highlight of his career the heavyweight chapter was all about money.

That horrible, stinking toe job he did. Has a boxer every made such a tit of himself after being dominated in a high profile world title fight? His antics in the lead up made it all the worse.
His foot was disgusting too, he should never have shown that thing off.

I wish I was there when he got knocked clean out in his head guard and vest by Jim Twite. Regrettably, I was cheering him on the night he gassed against Solis.chiggsy wrote:A special talent,The best cruiser we have ever produced by a mile and a very good heavyweight.

I was impressed with him against Mormeck. Also against Fragomeni as he showed he had a pair.
The Valuev fight showed that he could jump in and out, although he didn't have much choice mind you and he did rock him too so that was good. Stopping Chisora was no mean feat either.

Very successfull career!!
Haye exploited the heavyweight division & done great to become world champion! There won't be anyone stepping up from cruiser doing that again from this country.
You have to give him props! He's stated he ain't no Lennox or Ali, case of boy done good & he ain't took much damage either

With Froch's mentality... an all time British great. Undisputed cruiser champ. 2 weight world champ. Powerful, fast, athletic. And he actually had the tools to beat the Klitschko's but never used them
It's a shame he was a prick that in the end brought more hype than anything else
If he cut out the celeb crap, went for it vs Wlad, was active (he could've cleaned up Fury, Price, Arreola, Mitchell and all the other hype jobs if he really wanted to) there's no arguing he would've been at least liked

It's a shame we only get 2 options, because ALL of them are apt for Haye.

I think he will be best remembered for his regular appearances on Soccer AM and talking up his football allegiances to sell tickets then appearing on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and not knowing that Cardiff City played in the English league

Re: How will David Haye be best remembered?
I remember when Haye was starting out. He looked so fast, so powerful and flashy. A truly awesome prospect. He was my favourite fighter. I was looking forward to watching him fight for many more years and retiring with 45 fights behind him having fulfilled his potential.
But in the end, I feel like while he did like to fight, and tended to leave no stone unturned in training, he liked the money and lifestyle more. An intelligent businessman, and marketeer, he did well to milk the most money out of his promotions as possible.
A big problem for him I feel was that he was a very unfortunate size/weight for a boxer. Just slightly too big for cruiser and without the frame to grow into a heavyweight that could compete with the biggest guys.
As it stands, I can't help but feel he could have done more in his career. He moved up to heavyweight at a time when there was no other option, but he didn't seek frequent fights, rather did the minimum to set up the big money duel with Wlad. I wanted to see him look at the post-Klitschko era and recognise an opportunity there to be 'the man' when the Klits retired. I can't exactly blame him, since he has made his money from it all, but the disappointment is there.

Being told to behave in shopping centre-gate. When Klitschko turned round unruffled, that's when I decided he'd beat Haye.

also he survived an absolutely horrid cut to beat Jacobbe Fragomini![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Haye = Tony Blair, promised so much and delivered on some of it, but most people will remember the crap stuff.

He will be remembered for his toe excuse by the general public. Whenever I mention Haye to any of my friends, they always bring up the toe.
Re: How will David Haye be best remembered?
Best fight was Macrinelli. Delivered as a cruiserweight, turned into an idiot at heavyweight.
But, he did seek out the best fighters in both divisions, so you have to hand it to him for that.

Re: How will David Haye be best remembered?
most impressed me when he bare knuckled chisora and his trainer. He looked ready to take everyone on in a punch up.
Re: How will David Haye be best remembered?
When I look at his boxing exploits, I still look fondly upon everything he achieved (at Cruiserweight particularly), but he definitely got the most publicity for toegate scandal - unfortunately for him.

this. could have been up there as the best cruiser ever wit holy if he had stayed there.
but he didnt and went up to an overrated heavy career, tho his win against valuev away from home was a outstanding achievement.

Re: How will David Haye be best remembered?
Chisora press conference and 'Toegate'. Overall, though, a man who royally ripped off thousands of people throughout his career, was more interested in being a celebrity and money than actually fighting.
Re: How will David Haye be best remembered?
Anyone who remembers him for anything other than his boxing acheivements tells me they are not much of a boxing fan.
Re: How will David Haye be best remembered?
Agreed. Although beating Valuev in Germany at heavy was no mean feat, and for ending John Ruiz he deserved to cash out.chiggsy wrote:A special talent,The best cruiser we have ever produced by a mile and a very good heavyweight.
