What Has Hennessy Been Smoking?

Post by keithmoonhangover »

It must be good stuff, because he's saying that "Tyson needs time to get used to the situation because all these things - broken toes, cut eyes, shoulder injuries - are like a foreign language to him."

He's making out like Fury's never called a fight off because of an injury. He vacated the English title because of a broken hand and he also cancelled a fight because of a back injury.

I'm sure he's fought through the pain on other occasions, but come on Mick, put the pipe down.

I'm not a big fan of his to be honest. I know he doesnt have a great platform in terms of a tv deal like sky for instance but his salesman speak makes other promoters look like novices.

Don't get me wrong mate, I think he's done really well with Fury and also getting boxing back on terrestrial TV, but he's talking out of his poo hole on this injury lark.

I totally get where he's coming from. An English title pull-out pales in comparison to a MASSIVE career defining fight with a former 2 time world champion on PPV.

The Furious one must be absolutely gutted.

I understand that they are gutted, but injuries happen.

If Fury needed surgery or had a cut, then they would have pulled out as well.

Surely you mean his salesman speak looks like a novice compared to the other promoters?

I have to say Hennessy has put some crackers on with limited resources in terms of a TV deal in the past but it does baffle me sometimes how he goes about building a fighters fanbase. Surely it makes sense to have DeGale fighting in London time after time to build his following there rather than going to Bluewater and Hull.

No I actually meant the former. He'll try his best and sound convincing doing it that his fighter it facing some absolute beast when in reality it's some semi tomato can or someone who is mediocre.

I always seem to be one of those people who notices patterns in peoples behaviour or things they say over and over. Hennessy's is 'this guy is the best *(heavyweight/supermiddleweight/whatever his weight is)* on the planet!!!'

:OhYes: it just bugs me. I understand it's promoter talk but if you actually follow boxing closely and know all the different fighters about you know it's nonsense and it feels kind of patronising when you listen to it.

Spot on. He would make an ideal PR person for a company with a product to sell.

He has put on some good shows in fairness, but it always seems to be amateur hour when someone sticks a mike in front of him.

I think Fury and his team want people to feel sorry for him, and beg him to come back. It's not really working, as he just looks like a hysterical toddler having a hissy fit.
