How I see them matching up
Is meeting Froch centre ring a good gameplan?
George Groves revealed his game plan to Froch and the world today at the final press conference. George is to meet Froch mid ring and win the battle of jabs and land 2 right hands; the same in the 2nd round and then some more.
I imagined the plan to beat Froch would be more intricate; is this a red herring or a good tactic?

He's just trying to give him something to think about.
Re: Is meeting Froch centre ring a good gameplan?
groves will jab and move
Re: Is meeting Froch centre ring a good gameplan?
I think Groves's is going to do that! Initially atleast. If Froch has any success or lands a particularily hard shot though, he'll start backing up and trying to pot shot and counter punch whilst moving a lot.
Re: Is meeting Froch centre ring a good gameplan?
Same gameplan as the DeGale fight for GG in this one methinks.
His jab has come on leaps and bounds since then too. He'll box behind it and move.

Re: Is meeting Froch centre ring a good gameplan?
He will never meet him in the centre of the ring and trade blows as he knows he'd come off second best. As others have said he'll box off the back foot and try to nick the fight on points. He has a decent dig on him but when has Froch ever looked in real danger of being stopped.

Re: Is meeting Froch centre ring a good gameplan?
big fights generally start with a jabbing session in the first round , as it developes Groves will be more on the backfoot , turning froch and hitting
if he can get a way with not getting caught with follow up punches then i think he can do it , if carl catches him and punches though then could be alot of trouble

I think that will be the most important factor in the whole fight to be honest.danconnollyeire wrote:Tactics FrochTopGun wrote:How I see them matching up: -

I can't disagree with any of the attributes that have been listed and can only add youth; because Froch has kept himself in good condition all along this isn't really noticed. Froch was older than Groves is now when he turned pro 11 years ago. Froch has some miles on the clock and you cannot buy youth and vitality.

Re: How I see them matching up
Using this list of attributes to shoehorn Groves into a favoured position doesn't make any sense at all.
Important things: Froch is tougher, has better ring generalship, better stamina, better overall defence. All proved during his years of having operated at an infinitely higher level. Groves' style has never proved to be a problem for him.
Any other rationale in favour of Groves is just conjecture.

That is a massive contradiction isn't it, given you reasons for why Froch is better? Is yours not conjecture then?

I don't understand what you're trying to say.TopGun wrote:Riddick Blowe wrote:Using this list of attributes to shoehorn Groves into a favoured position doesn't make any sense at all.

Well you are saying my list is not making any sense and I'm forming my opinion that Groves is better is on incomplete criteria. Obviously the list could be endless but all of your categories fall into mine: Tougher (chin/mental strength) etc.
I'm just backing my theory that Groves will win the fight through a few valid points. How you can say Froch has better defence? I would say that is one of his worse attributes IMO
