Mr Duce is giving me a new insight into 'the real' Ali. Turns out he's just a glorified journeyman. Who'd have thunk it. :??

He had Ali ranked the 4th greatest heavyweight ever in a previous post about ATG rankings so I would take all the constant nit picking and one sided criticism with a pinch of salt.

When he's not talking about Ali he actually has some excellent information and resources. Just stay out of the Ali threads.
Re: Message For The Well Being Of This Forum
This is interesting Barry.
I don't know if I agree or disagree.
I'ts too obvious that I don't mind chewin the straw and jabberin' with him.
He's like the ol' BS'r at the general store, who's got some good language skills, but doesn't always put his words together to tell any sort of truthful story regarding his pet peeves.
He's never used expletives that I know of. He's hard pressed to take the personal bait that's tossed his way when his veracity is questioned...or on occasion simply confronted, differed with or denied.
Most of his fiction, is hard to prove to be true or false. Nobody is buyin what's he's sellin.
If we can't as people train our minds to be disciplined, and to check sources and not swallow everything we are fed, then we get lazy, and we are sure to lose those skills if never tested.
No one has to read his stuff, but many find it at the very least entertaining.
If those who REALLY don't like him, can explain to me why they know of nearly all his contributions
I'd like to hear more about that. Seems we may be punishing ourselves if that is the case.
I liken him to the town drunk, who is mostly harmless, can spin a good yarn, and some of the ladies in town believe his stories, and begin gossip campaigns with the stuff he sputters out, but the men just sort of put up with his benign blatherings.
And on occasion when it's not his pet peeve, he comes up with some interesting...and from what I've seen, researched comments.
I enjoy lampooning him...and I don't think he hates me for it.
I was hoping we could get a comedy team rollin' with the material we are developing.
By the way this is a forum.....not a bible on boxing. Forums are places where much in the way of incorrect information is bantered about. I'm not sure I can go after him for his dis-ingenuity any more than I already have.
If we all decided he needed to be sanctioned because he spreads disinformation about a few fighters I suppose I could issue him a warning. But I'm inclined not be overly imposing except where a specific rule is being broken.
If we all loved Ali, and none of us could stand to hear a negative word spoken about him, and we all became insane with rage whenever we heard a discouraging word, I suppose I could nuance the word "troll" into his warning. Because that aspect of reactivity is subjective....and a troll can know our buttons and simply push the button and get our reaction. So a "troll" he would be, simply because we disagree and react to him.
Do you kinda sorta get what I'm talkin about here? I want to preserve freedom. And his insidious ways are sort of protected under that value.

It's funny that, because in the past you've refused to 'educate and further' your understanding of the sport. If someone proves you wrong, the least you do is be man enough to admit it.BarryWashington wrote:To each his own.

ThatOne couldn't ignore an IlDuce post if you paid him. But they seem to have started to contain their obsessing over Ali and each other to threads I don't open. Doesn't bother me any. I just got annoyed when every topic turned into those two for several pages going on and on with the same shit.

Check the last post:
I was asked to stop kicking his threads and I stopped. We'll do an exercise. Today is 11/20. I won't respond to his posts until 11/23, a reasonable interval of three days, and we will see if his threads are still on the front page.
Sounds reasonable.

It's also not me dedicating threads to him... However I don't see why he upsets people when the ignore feature exists for that purpose.
Re: Message For The Well Being Of This Forum
I've been practicing this for the last couple weeks. Ill Douche is not worth my time. Not that I post that much, but I do check the forum regularly, and made a conscious decision to ignore all of his threads.

active forums have an inner healing function.
once enough people share an opinion, things
change by themselves.

Three whole days? OMG, you're a hero. I don't open his threads so I wouldn't know. I just noticed that it's been a while since you desecrated an unrelated thread by complaining about him ruining it. No worries, I skim you now too.

I have literally taken yearly hiatuses from this board. I only returned to save it from boredom and see if some of my old interlocutors like yancey and boxbuzz were still alive.
After just such an hiatus I discovered Il Duce's postings and responded.

Just don't assume that the "information" is based on facts whether it has to do with Ali or not.King Carlos wrote:When he's not talking about Ali he actually has some excellent information and resources. Just stay out of the Ali threads.
Don't assume that since a date is mentioned that it means something he claims is true.

Re: Message For The Well Being Of This Forum
I read a lot in here, I don't post because I don't feel I have a great deal to offer. The historical aspect of the sport is not my strong suit, but I do like to find things out.
Anyway, Il Duce... If you don't like his posts, he's easy enough to ignore. In fact, there's an ignore button that will aid this.
It's not like he goes after people on a deliberate wind-up, contributing nothing but provocative nonsense and smiley emoticons.
In fact, I'd read more of his threads if my inside voice didn't go up and down more often than a Barnsley girls knickers due to his 'overuse' of 'certain' types of 'punctuation marks'.
