In not issuing a count and stopping the fight early, Mr Foster has unwittingly given Groves the biggest leg up imaginable. Multi-million dollar rematch and new found popularity.

was Foster not involved in another "dubious" one only a few weeks ago? I only remember as he's normally been one of the better ones down recent years, whilst all manner of robberies have taken place.

I must stress however, I'm glad we're only sat talking about a "premature stoppage" and not a tragic outcome. I wasn't in the ring so I really don't know what he saw.

this highlights the crappy way they drag everything out and make people go through hoops.
After George beat Degale fair and square - again - 3 years ago, after being laughed at and ridiculed by Degale, even allegedly, then winning the fight, he was a hero and people were saying that a baton was passed from the late Henry Cooper on to Groves.

Roll on 3 years and he enters a ring to boos. I originally hoped to go to this fight but tbh I don't enjoy sharing oxygen with some of the utter f*ckwits and mainstream casual "fan" types who agree with the last opinion they heard and just want to see some poor lad laid out then go for 8 pints and a kebab.

Getting distracted - but how can Groves go from being hero to villain? He was always a good 'un in my book but these stupid interviews and hype don't help imo (apart from maybe the bank balance ;;-) )

Groves deserved so much more than that. Was fornicating salivating at watching the last 3 rounds.

frustrating thing is that if groves had gone down he would have had a ten second count to recover, im sure eddie hearn is licking his lips at the thougt of a rematch. no 'is it ppv worthy?' next time, im sure

excuse any spelli.g or pu.cuation as im a bit drunk and have chubby fingers

i have to be honest. I cant see anything other than a fix on some level.

Be it fast car Eddie or the ref.

Maybe the Referee had this preconceived idea that Groves was chinny so as soon as he took a shot he was going to "save him" for the "international superstar Carl Froch"

Did the ref have money for a stoppage win? Did Eddie Hearn have a few words with him before hand in case it was a close fight?

I dont know. But the one i do know is that George Groves is better than Carl Froch. Thats a bloody given.

It seems the only way to beat a matchroom fighter these days is to knock them out. And even then its not a given :shame:

In the post fight interview Paddy Fitzpatrick was saying the referee should have given a standing 8 count to Groves, they were going to look into the rules to see if that should have applied in this fight. Any update to that?

Thought it was a premature stoppage and he should've just let the action flow a little longer, but to be honest, I don't buy this idea that Foster was particularly going out of his way to protect Froch in there or do anything underhanded. Look at the 8th round, Groves was clearly starting to struggle with the pace and Foster stopped the action and gave him a breather. Thought Froch got away with plenty, but Groves cracked Froch round the back of the head more than once last night and got away with it.

In terms of the actual stoppage, I think Groves was the victim of the Bute and Taylor finishes... Froch likes to unload his combinations when he has fighters on the ropes and while he doesn't really have one punch KO power, he stopped both those guys hard and on their feet. I think mentally Foster was on his heels and ready to jump in to save Groves if/ when this happened and just jumped the gun. Groves was in trouble, but he deserved more time.

It was a very bad stoppage. It wasn`t as if Groves was stiffened by a single shot prior to Froch just trying to overpower him.

Groves was under pressure. But the same had happened as early as the 3rd round and he had regained his footing.
