Froch didn't lose simpy because groves has an awkward style, it's better he is much much better/gifted. It's getting pathetic now
Plus you need to work on defence. Using your face to block isn't a defense

Froch didn't lose full stop.
Re: Rob McCraken
Yes we all know that, but if he carries on and thinks groves was just another fighter who got beat and dont give him a rematch he will lose a lot of respect, you can't fool the British public, the paying customers demand a rematch and if don't happen we all know why !Matt W wrote:Froch didn't lose full stop.

I don't disagree, but that's not what the OP is about nor what I was responding to.jessi wrote:Yes we all know that, but if he carries on and thinks groves was just another fighter who got beat and dont give him a rematch he will lose a lot of respect, you can't fool the British public, the paying customers demand a rematch and if don't happen we all know why !Matt W wrote:Froch didn't lose full stop.

He's brother the welter was called phil wasn't he??
Re: Rob McCraken
I agree, it was Groves' first fight at world level, he will have learnt more from this loss than a win, he wont make the mistake of fighting his opponents style of fight (I hope). The whole experience will have done him wonders. I suspect in 10 years time we will be discussing who would win between GG vs JC not CF vs JCrossij8 wrote:Froch has come out of this as a brawler with limited boxing skill but a granite chin

Re: Rob McCraken
Inexperience never got him.. Howard Foster did. I've watched the fight about 10 times no way was Groves hurt.. On the other hand fight should of been stopped for Froch's safety he took so many shots. Groves was more off balance than anything wasn't really hurt.. Groves was still firing back and hurting Carl even 10 secs before the stoppage.. Carl was getting a bit desperate and I believe he would of got picked off by Groves in the next round and stopped.. Only one winner of that fight in my eyes. Froch should retire got out of jail there. Lennox Lewis had a similar thing happen against Kilitscho and he retired. Everyone goes on about Froch's legacy and compare to Calzahhe?? I have him 3rd best Super Middleweight in the uk

What are you on about, of course he was hurt, he was still on unsteady legs when he was in his corner after the stoppage.daviddee wrote:Inexperience never got him.. Howard Foster did. I have watched it for the first time today, and whilst it would have been better if we had a decisive ending, I can see why the referee stepped in.
It is more dangerous when a fighter remains on his feet, but is taking punishment, as that is when real damage is done. Groves' legs had stiffened and he seemed disorientated.
I have to say that also people are very much overstating how much punishment Carl took in there, people are making out like he spent most of the fight wobbling around getting smashed all over the ring, which is far from true.
If you ignore Watt's ridiculous commentary, where he basically decides early on that Groves is doing brilliantly, and that therefore most of what Carl does is somehow invalid, a lot of the rounds were pretty close.
I think we need a rematch, but personally, I think if we do, the result will be similar. The problem for groves is that his best shots may have had Carl on his ass, but as the fight wore on, Carl seemed to become more or less comfortable taking then, and in rounds 8 and 9 he was walking through the shots. Carl really didn't land many flush shots in the early rounds, but the minute he connected with a few, Groves seemed to come apart.
I don't blame the ref one bit for stepping in, he has a responsibility to protect the fighters, and Groves looked like he wasn't really aware of what direction he was going, or where the next shot was going to come from. He clearly sagged into the ropes when Foster let him go. Carl was going to keep on throwing shots and seemed to have quite a lot left in the tank, the ref doesn't get a second chance to save a fighter, or watch a replay, he has to act as he sees fit.
No way was foster paid off, or was the fix in. I Had groves 4 points ahead, but there were some close rounds, and there was, even in the early running, good work from Carl.
That's my take on it.
Re: Rob McCraken
Your biased take on it??? That's far from the mark his legs were fine..He almost stayed up after a lump like Howard Foster had wrestled him over the ring.. Every time Groves hit Froch he was wobbled. Mate watch it closer Groves was wobbling him with his jab. Froch kept looking at his corner. He didn't know what to do and couldn't believe what was happening. Did you see Froch staggering to the changing rooms. Froch will have took no damage from that fight I can Almost guarantee Froch willjamesmcdonnell wrote:What are you on about, of course he was hurt, he was still on unsteady legs when he was in his corner after the stoppage.daviddee wrote:Inexperience never got him.. Good post. It's how I and the others watching it with me seen it. Early on I felt the ref was on Groves side as he let him away with lots of blatant head work, which Froch brushed off. What a machine Froch is. Heart, chin and willpower overcame speed, movement and power. I couldn't believe how Carl was able to walk through George's power shots just to land a club of his own especially after that heavy knockdown. Most fighters would have been done by that.

A few casuals have said to me they thought Froch looked like he didn't want to be there and even scared a few times. That's their take on it, not mine. Very wary of George's power is how I would put it.
Re: Rob McCraken
From the 6th round Froch was rolling the dice more than I have ever seen him in a fight and to be honest, people just aren't giving the guy nearly enough credit. He knew full well Groves was out boxing him and hurting him and he adapted to the situation the only way he could. Froch knew he was going to keep taking those shots and knew the only way he was getting himself back into that fight was to stand in the pocket, let Groves throw his single right hand then just try and get a few digs in of his own. The fact that by the 9th round he was actually turning it around and pulling it off is testament to the guys heart, chin and determination.

Is that how a coach should look at it? No, a coach should looked at it as he was losing until a hopeful punch went in, that's my pointDMA1987 wrote:
