The Froch/Calzaghe debate

As I opened this I half expected when did Calzaghe give a young guy a shot or something pathetic like that, but very well said Froch has been lucky in a fair few fights which all could've gone the other way.

It is true though that Calzaghe's last few fights were very carefully picked cash-ins against older fighters. If Froch reverted to that now he'd get hammered for it.

It would certainly still be an interesting fight, but maybe not a good fight to watch. By fighting young pretenders Carl is definitely giving himself a harder task as he has clearly slowed down a lot over the last few years so he's going to be giving speed/reflexes advantages away to guys like Groves every time now.

Both have added a ton of value to British boxing, I don't get why anyone still cares about this debate.... Calzaghe wins in a fight between the two and has more impressive wins on his resume but Froch has still mixed at world level for 5 years and fought just about everyone he could've, without taking a backward step. Both guys get a from me....

Roy Jones Jr fight I'd agree but as old as Hopkins was when Joe faced him he was still clearly one of the best in the world, convincing wins over Tarver and Wright before and Pavlik, Pascal, Cloud and Murat since.

All depends if Joe could resist the urge to stand toe-to-toe with Froch at some point. He loved a tear up and would play straight into Froch's hands if he decided to have one. If he used his boxing, Froch wouldn't win 2 rounds.

I don't think anyone believes a prime Froch beats a prime Calzaghe.

It just goes to show the difference in both fighters approach to their respective careers though, that Froch is considered by many to have a better record. It shouldn't even be up for debate given Joe was clearly the more talented, yet he was too happy in the comfort zone and Froch forced himself to go seeking the big fights.

I agree with a couple of points above though. Who gives a fvck? The whole Calzaghe-Froch thing is allegedly's favourite topic. Its very strange given Joe retired an age ago. Perhaps he should have given Froch the chance like Froch has given Groves the chance?

His superior hand speed means he wins in a tear up, hardly dropping a round if the fight went this way, and his superior boxing means he wins boxing him, hardly dropping a round.

I honestly think Froch not getting a shot at Calzaghe helped him. If he'd have got the shot when he was coming up it would have been Jeff Lacy all over again and he may never have been the fighter he ended up being.

Joe's a different level to Carl. Simple as.

A team of the best nine fighters on Froch's record would slaughter a team of the best nine of CAlzaghes, assuming that we have each of them on the day of their respective fights. But Froch would be KO'd by Calzaghe, if Joe chose to push for it, or more likely get the Jeff Lacy treatment.

Here's a thought - I wonder if CAlzaghe fancies it now!

I tend to agree, i've always thought Calzaghe was the naturally bigger, stronger guy. I'm not sure Froch will ever move to LHW, if he did, i wouldn't give him much of a shot against Adonis, Cleverly, Kovalev or Hopkins at the moment. A pre-retirement Calzaghe would beat all of them handily.

Even if joe went toe to toe with carl he would still out gun froch imo,southpaw,speed and movement =disaster for the cobra
