I was at the Joshua debut - when Kevin Mitchell came on a bunch of about 20 p!ssed up lads came and sat right next to me clearly looking for trouble. They were singing West Ham songs (mainly the anti-semitic ones), standing up so no-one in the seats behind them could see, generally looking for agro. Very unpleasant lot. Someone a few rows back who'd had enough of them shouted "go on Lopez!" (the name of Mitchell's opponent). These lads all started turning around and shouting "who said Lopez?". The thing is, they looked like a pack of retards, believing there was a genuine Lopez fan near them who they should fill in - everyone started laughing at them. Then it really kicked off! It was very funny but I did think I was about to get clobbered!

Alcohol should be banned at boxing events too many idiots can't handle their drink and spoil it for the people that just want to enjoy a nights boxing

I agree with you there. The only time they actually get stuck in is when some poor pudendum hits the deck, then they put the boots to him. It's like when the chimpanzees fight a rival group of monkeys, it's more noise and bravado than anything else. Sickens me a bit.

Many people go to boxing to enjoy boxing, there is no joy sitting behind or in front of a bunch of drunken idiots, it takes the enjoyment out of it.

Why anyone would go to a boxing card with the intention of getting inebriated is beyond me, you pay so much money for a ticket and you can't even comprehend what's happening in front of you, never mind the constants bar/toilet breaks which mean you miss a lot if what's going on anyway.

If you want to go out and get pissed, go to a pub, there's too many idiots that go to boxing with the intention of getting as drunk as they can which makes it uncomfortable for people that just want to be entertained by what's going on in the ring

The darts (PDC on sky) only sell seats in blocks of 8 to avoid this type of shenanigans. Too often in boxing shows you have groups of 20-40 lads there for a bit of ohhh a bit at ahhh and it ruins it for others. Promoters rely too heavily on fighters selling tickets and earning commission i guess.

With regards to all "the boys" on this forum thinking your average football hooligans fighting are just embarrassing to watch - try telling that to the wives and children who want to come to boxing events.
I took the wife (and another couple with a kid) to quigg munroe 1 - they'll never go to another boxing show again. What keyboard warriors see as "amateur novice level fights", genuine paying fans see as quite intimidating.

At the end of the day wether someone is shite on the street or can have a go, for a youngster or a person who isn't used to seeing violent arguements or confrontation two men/groups of men screaming threats, throwing plastic beer cups and arm punches at each other is extremely intimidating and doubtless would put your casual/1st time fan off for life. I boxed a four rounder at metrodome some yrs back on Carl Thompson undercard and remember Barnsley fans coming back from a play off defeat doing their best to turn the lot over, fortunately Clifton Mitchell was doing the security and copped for a stray slap upon which point he vividily demonstrated the difference between those who can do it and those who gesticulate and bounce about saying they can...SHORT AND SWEET The other incident of crowd trouble i vividly remember was at the Nec, Benn v Giminez when Steve Fosters salford lot had a do with Mcrackens Bcfc firm. It started with the "long and winding road" and finished up with barriers,blood,snot and riot police a plenty. Saddest sight for me was Micheal Watson who had been introduced ringside as "the bravest of the brave" earlier in the evening, having to be taken away for his own safety. What struck me on the night was not one of those plasic chair throwng mugs would have lasted two minutes in the street or ring with a fit Micheal Watson. ;;-) These incidents took place ten or more yrs ago

I disagree Hurlock and 1 nut.

There are plenty of small minds grow up in big cities; the metropolitan ideal where people are cultured and respectful of difference is a fantasy; Leeds is a decent sized city, as is Sheffield, Manchester and Birmingham are big cities and London is a metropolis; there are plenty of 'geezers needing excitement' that come from there. There are arseholes from all over and many are young men who haven't stabilised themselves yet with wife/partner, kids, work and bills. They are like teenagers with money and hormones all over. It's not a small town thing, it is country wide, rural and urban.

I took my dad to that show, it was pretty nasty for a while. I had a good view of the trouble and concluded that a group of Munroe's fans had come to kick off, led by a silly shaven headed twat who clearly sought confrontation from Quigg's fans. I had the pleasure of seeing him battered when one of his charges into the stands went wrong for him - his mates beat a hasty retreat leaving him at the mercy of the guys he'd been baiting. He got a pasting but returned to his mates and tried to raise a revenge charge back up into the stands, which perpetuated the trouble further. A shame the Quigg fans didn't put him out of action for the rest of the night.
