i always try not to be too nostalgic,
since each generation kind of sees the
glory in the past and only the BS in the
present. but whenever i come across a
piece of footage of the early seventies,
i can't help thinking: "when was the last
time heavies fought like that?" and the
answer is always evander-related.

Yes and just occasionally boxing time machine whose two most prominent

It's doubtful it ever happened anyway. I checked Norton's record and he had fights in late November and mid-December 1972 in Nevada and California.

Well, as a fiction writer, he can take license. It's the heart of the story that matters here. He sincerely wanted this to be a fact, and that goes a long way toward full "certification".

Kenny Norton Working Out With Joe Frazier

Kenny was in Joe Frazier's Training Camp at The Playboy Club in McAfee, New Jersey
From > Monday, December 3rd thru Friday, December 8th.

Kenny flew home over the weekend, and had a scheduled bout on Wednesday Night - December 13th
at The Coliseum in San Diego.

Kenny fought Charlie Reno in front of a sparse crowd of only 700 in the 3561 seat Coliseum. Kenny received
only $300 for his Fight Purse, in winning a somewhat difficult 10-Round Decision over the 'Seattle Fat Man'.

Kenny flew back to New Jersey, and was working out with Joe on Friday, December 15th.

That's when we saw him spar with Joe Frazier.

Joe Frazier had his final workout at The Playboy Club that Friday, and then moved his Camp to Pleasantville, New Jersey.

Saturday - November 25, 1972

I was announced today that Joe Frazier will open up Training Camp at The Playboy Hotel in Great Gorge
on Wednesday - November 29th in preparation for his January 22, 1973 - Championship Bout with Challenger
George Foreman.

Joe will do roadwork on the 27-Hole Golf Course, and will bring in several sparring partners for Ring work. Joe will
stay at the McAfee, New Jersey Hotel for '17-Days'.

Joe Frazier ended his Training Camp at The Playboy Club in McAfee, New Jersey on Friday, December 15th -
- and was moving his Camp down the road to Pleasantville, New Jersey.

Kenny took a flight back to San Diego on Saturday late-Afternoon, December 9th. He had used the time {6-Days} at
The Playboy Hotel with Joe Frazier to prepare for his upcoming bout with Charlie Reno back in San Diego

Kenny was back in San Diego on Saturday Night, December 9th.

Then, Kenny fought Charlie Reno on Wednesday Night, December 13th at The Coliseum.

Kenny had agreed to take a 'Percentage' of the Live Gate instead of a $3000 Fight Purse Guarantee. Unfortunately less
than 700 people attended, and Kenny ended up with a 'paltry' Fight Purse of only $300 for defeating Charlie Reno over
10-Rounds.

Kenny then called the Frazier Camp and said he would come back to New Jersey, which he did. He took a flight out of
San Diego on Thursday, December 14th.

Kenny was sparring with Joe Frazier on Friday - December 15th, the last day of Training Camp at The Playboy Club Hotel.
That is where we saw him......

Kenny also went down to Pleasantville, New Jersey with the Joe Frazier Camp for 7 more days, and stayed in New Jersey
until Thursday, December 21st, before heading back home for the Holidays.

According to Kenny Norton, it was he who said he was moving Joe Frazier backwards in late-1972.

Against Muhammad Ali, the referees called all fights right. Norton was not a better boxer/fighter than Muhammad Ali. Ken Norton would not have beaten Joe Frazier. I watched Ken Norton's fight with Jimmy Young and was very surprised that he was awarded the win. I really feel that Jimmy Young won that fight.
