Now he struggled to pull that up and I appreciate he is not a weight lifter or power lifter but come on, that is pretty poor.
I can do 220kg and I am not a power lifter either oh and I am 5ft 7" and weighed just under 11st when I lifted that last year and I am 40 years old!
And the pussy used straps to assist his grip!!
Anyway, who do you guys have winning the fight?

There pal. I do not have the 220kg videoed as I do not record every lift. But 200kg at 72kg as I was there is ok. Now where is yours?
Crap form by me but I got it up.
But like I said originally I know he is not a weight lifter but I just find his strength is poor for a man of his size. In seriousness I watch him in fights and find he does not push people around with the authority I would expect which is why his fights get messy and untidy.
Re: Fury deadlift on Ringside
His fights are messy and untidy because he doesn't do anything well. He can jab well, but he rarely does, and other than that he's not even good at being tall.
Re: Fury deadlift on Ringside

I`m 5ft 9 and weigh 12 stone. However I struggle to even lift my own schlong. Then again it is a pretty damn impressive piece of kit if I do say so myself.

Re: Fury deadlift on Ringside
I am not sure what your point is (maybe you want to tell your mates in the pub that you can deadlift more than Tyson Fury ?), however you would never see any athlete (not just a boxer) attempt to do what you did, with the form shown, that would just be nuts.tobyh5 wrote:Sklar wrote:Where's your video, pal?tobyh5 wrote:Watching Ringside tonight with the Fury segment and it showed him doing a deadlift. After watching the Fury family running on the beach video (to be fair, it is funny) I might start a thread about how I am a faster runner than Fury - surely this must mean that I could be a heavyweight champion if only I could be bothered to try ?

Re: Fury deadlift on Ringside
Tall men rarely do weights well , leverage works against them.
I think those exercises hes doing are to work on weak areas they have spotted.
the dead-lift is more about exploding from the hips and building compensatory muscles
in the lower back abs and Hips. its a perfect exercise to increase overall strength.
Also good to develop balance and control. now are there better more advanced things ? yes
but its a start .
If you want to see truly how strong he is have him pull something over a distance , he will always beat the smaller compact body type
Fury is plenty strong , especially since he is not the most coordinated guy
He has the best stamina in the HW division and maybe one of the best in Boxing.
had a good engine for sure
fighters often complain that he uses his weight too much to tire the opponents out , anyone that knows sports science or kinesioligy understand that takes a lot of strength and stamina to do , its a brilliant technique, especially when he throws loads of punches . Fury although not the typical "special" fighters, he has some attributes that truly make him "Special?
I think he deserves a lot of credit

Never understand the weird attitude to lifting amongst boxing folk - for any athletic pursuit that involves speed and power lifting is a must.

Re Fury: Think about how far the bar has to travel compared to yourself. In the deadlift, if you and Fury both lifted the same weight, you'd only be doing about 60-65% of the work he is. Interestingly you're roughly 61% of his bodyweight.
I'd estimate that a guy of Fury's height would need to be in excess of 400lbs to really start pulling big weights, he'd definitely need to be that big to squat serious weight 600lbs+. Former World's Strongest Man, Magnus Samuelsson, has a best deadlift of 340kg, he's 6'6". In the big scheme of things and given his credentials, you could argue that's not a big lift, it's well over 100kg shy of the WR but his leverages are shitty for powerlifting and he would have had to compromise too much in terms of his health and other events to get big enough to make them work for him; so he picked his battles. Fury is doing the same.

You certainly wouldn't challenge Magnus Samuelsson to an arm wrestle....

B0llocks. Lifting is definitely not a 'must' for boxing, in fact it would almost certainly be detrimental to many elite fighters, too much heavy muscle can be a big disadvantage.Trojans44 wrote:Never understand the weird attitude to lifting amongst boxing folk - for any athletic pursuit that involves speed and power lifting is a must.

Re: Fury deadlift on Ringside
I agree with Boxerbeetle123 that lifting weights is not a must. There have been (and are) too many champions who didn't/don't lift weights to prove otherwise. I've never met or heard of a single professional fighter in history who didn't do some form of external resistance training though, and I would love to hear from anybody who can find an example to the contrary.
A properly directed programme of external resistance training, that may or may nor include lifting weights is, IMO, a must for all fighters.
