Great post.Let's just let them fight and see what happens. One of them may surprise us all.Badhusker wrote:It looks like Stiverne/King are milking this belt as long as possible. Get the fight done and let the fans enjoy what happens. Both are decent fighters, and neither over-shadow the other as far as being some kind of monster heavy that will threaten Wlad. The result, however, may change all of that.

This fight would be an ideal curtain raiser on NBC, so the delay is possibly to the benefit of both fighters teams.fergusg wrote:
If the fight goes to purse bids, Roc Nation may become the highest bidder… and the last time that happened, the Al Haymon-managed Peter Qullin vacated his title. So I don’t know how this affects Deontay if Roc Nation does win the purse bid (as he's another Haymon fighter).
Either way, the delay is about money rather than "milking" anything.

Is there a chance Don King is delaying negotiations until after Wlad-Pulev to use unification as a bargaining chip?

Haymon will never allow that.He wants Wilder to be America's choice for Wlad.Freedom2013 wrote:Don King says he wants the fight to take place in Egypt:

If Wilder wins Haymon will position him for a ppv with Wlad. That should cash him out with
big bucks.

It sure is taking a long time for them to sign for this fight.

I am amazed this fight is not signed.
Re: Wilder says Don King/Stiverne are "scared" to sign
Stiverne/King aren't confident and they shouldn't be. Stiverne is a known mediocrity. Wilder is more of a mystery.

I have a Ring Magazine from 1975 with King proclaiming that Ali-Frazier III would take place in Egypt, under the "shadow of the Sphinx."
So King's schtick is at least 40 years old.
He'll take the fight to wherever the $$$ is best.
When Marcos offered some huge bucks to land the rubber match, the Sphinx apparently became an afterthought to King.
Re: Wilder vs. Stiverne is on for Dec 13 or Dec 20, no purse
What does "Stiverne's no Patterson" mean, Floyd, was a great fighter with many more skills than Stiverne.dempseyfire wrote:30 + fights and still has yet to go 5 rounds. Pretty paltry experience, and yes that's because his team have put him in with cracked chinaSenorPipino wrote:Stiverne's no Patterson.funso banjo baby wrote:on paper this is like a sub Patterson v Rademacher
And while the opposition has been less than great, Wilder does have 30+ bouts under his belt. At least he has an inkling of what the pro game is about. Rademacher had none.
I think Stiverne is ducking.
It is taking an exceptionally long time to put this fight together. At the end of the day, Wilder in the WBC mandatory challenger as I understand it. There aint no getting around that, they have to take the fight or they'll more-than-likely be stripped.
Re: Wilder says Don King/Stiverne are "scared" to sign
The old romantic in me just can't help wondering whether there might be something rather solid behind this Egypt project; as far-fetched as it sounds.
This is almost certainly Don's last hurrah and he has always had a love for the spectacular/dramatic venue....its almost been one of his trademarks as a promoter....so I wonder whether it might be a case of a mega-money deal still being on the table and being painstakingly negotiated with the Egyptian authorities?
King has done outlandish deals with governments before....getting the costs underwritten in return for the publicity.....and Egypt is a country with big issues and an urgent economic need to get tourists coming back to see it's important sites.
It seems fanatastical, even vaguely absurd, writing this. But perhaps the delay really is because King is attempting to pull-off one last great masterstroke?

Re: Wilder says Don King/Stiverne are "scared" to sign
I would love for the fight to be in Egypt for nostalgia's sake. A HW championship fight (though not the championship in this case) in an exotic location from where neither fighter originates is classic Don King stuff. It sounds unlikely, but I hope he can make it happen.
Re: Wilder says Don King/Stiverne are "scared" to sign
I didn't catch that in the article, it seems it's just Wilder talking crap but the supposed "deal" was vehemently denied by BOTH Promoters. In other words, there is no deal for this fight so how can it be that someone is "scared?"Freedom2013 wrote:Deontay Wilder wants his fight with Bermane Stiverne to be signed and official, but Don King and his man Bermane Stiverne seem to want to delay it as long as possible.

Once the money is right then we will see Stiverne school this guy easily.

The reason this fight isn't signed, and will almost certainly NOT happen is Stiverne is scared.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but why exactly would Stiverne be scared?Tony1244 wrote:The reason this fight isn't signed, and will almost certainly NOT happen is Stiverne is scared.
