You need some, which he has, Bob Sapp has a brilliant deadlift (I bet) but would you pick Sapp over Tyson Fury in a boxing match.hurricanemitch14 wrote:for his size and weight thats horrible but look at his body, hes a skinny fat guy. he's weak physically and thats why i dont think makes against the top guys.
i know powerlifter and boxing r different but u gotta have strength at heavy
So it doesn't matter that much, if Tyson Fury is 'skinny fat' then he will be one of the many top class heavyweights in years gone by not to have single digit percentage of bodyfat.hurricanemitch14 wrote:u missed where i put piwerlifting is different than boxing, then u skipped my next post
Not to the extent where deadlifting is an important part of their training regime.hurricanemitch14 wrote:ali and that era would need to using strength training for sure in a klits era
I don't think many top heavyweights would have been sub 10% bodyfat. 6-9% bodyfat is ridiculously lean for a big guy. You'd have very visible abdominals at that level of bodyfat (even when you're not tensing them).Fat Git wrote:So it doesn't matter that much, if Tyson Fury is 'skinny fat' then he will be one of the many top class heavyweights in years gone by not to have single digit percentage of bodyfat.hurricanemitch14 wrote:u missed where i put piwerlifting is different than boxing, then u skipped my next post
Velocity+Weight= PowerG0mez wrote:I remember reading Tito Trinidad couldn't bench press a 15kg plate either side.
But he had remarkable power in his punches in his prime.

People always seem to exaggerate how low their bodyfat is. If the average heavyweight is about 235lbs then they'd look in the same condition as a prime (1970s) Arnold Schwarzenegger (same weight) at 8% bodyfat.
Unfortunately, in Boxing, it's not that simple.HomicideHenry wrote:Velocity+Weight= PowerG0mez wrote:I remember reading Tito Trinidad couldn't bench press a 15kg plate either side.

I'd say technique and timing are the most important things. The one thing that isn't really important IMO is arm strength, the core and legs are far more important to getting power into a punch.lillywhite14 wrote:Unfortunately, in Boxing, it's not that simple.HomicideHenry wrote:Velocity+Weight= PowerG0mez wrote:I remember reading Tito Trinidad couldn't bench press a 15kg plate either side.

'Do you even lift, bro?'
Will he be strong enough to lift that world title above his head is the real question.
I thought that, but then I bench 4 tonnes.smiling assassin wrote:Did you just want to comment on this so you could tell everyone about your own deadlifttobyh5 wrote:Watching Ringside tonight with the Fury segment and it showed him doing a deadlift. I calculated that the weight was 230kg on the assumption the plates on each side were 2 x 25kg, 2 x 20, 1 x 10, 1 x 5kg = 105kg x two sides plus the bar which is 20kg
Now he struggled to pull that up and I appreciate he is not a weight lifter or power lifter but come on, that is pretty poor.
I can do 220kg and I am not a power lifter either oh and I am 5ft 7" and weighed just under 11st when I lifted that last year and I am 40 years old!
And the pussy used straps to assist his grip!!
Anyway, who do you guys have winning the fight?
