Al Haymon brings his boxing league to NBC

140 fighters over 24 dates is a lot of work for him.

I still think his matchmaking this year has made it harder for him to really drive his vision on this year. I understand he doesn't want to spoil his best fights (Peterson/Garcia etc.) but he lost a lot of momentum with a lot of fighters by going to far the other way.

I hope it works out best for boxing, not solely for the individual.

I have to admit, I have been one of the worst Haymon critics. I've been over the top critical of Haymon and what he did to my favorite sport in 2014 but now, I look like an absolute idiot. There's no suger coating it, I'm an absolute idiot.

It's obvious NOW that Haymon didn't want to hand SHO or HBO any good fights as he was walking out the door and who could blame him? He spent years building a huge stable of talented fighters while at the same time negotiating with NBC. We all scratched our heads at the cards last year but now it makes perfect sense. Why would you hand over great fights to a couple of networks that will soon be your direct competitors? For so long, HBO and SHO had a duet monopoly on boxing and didn't care who they mistreated. Haymon probably had seen enough and had the resources to shove it in their faces.

In the last few years, how many great fighters have been sidelined from the ring for extended periods of time due to these back alley promoter contracts that enslave these fighters? I won't list them because you all know who they are. Haymon saw the mistreatment and started making changes on the personal level, fighter to fighter. These fighters absolutely love how they are treated and it really is making all the difference. Haymon is pro-fighter and with the legal background he has, he gets to protect these kids from those back alley deals that Top Rank loves to make. It makes me feel really dumb that i didn't see this as it was happening because it's genius.

I am eating crow on this one. If Haymon continues to put together these fights that we've been clamoring for then nothing will make me happier. This move by Haymon, if successful, could be the biggest move in the history of the sport. Hands down.

Respect for the rational response on something you weren't initially a fan of.

Personally for me anything that takes power out of the promoters & abc groups hands even slightly I see as a greater good for boxing as a whole so I'm wishing Al all the luck on doing what he's doing.

Haymon wouldn't even show his face or say a word at the intro press conference announcing the deal. Obviously this scoundrel is a coward who has a lot to hide. Arum and King always took the bull by the horns and faced the media and fans and promoted their business, in good time or bad. Haymon is a two bit coward who thinks he's bigger than the sport. He could care less about the integrity of the sport, he just wants to increase his own power and self interests. At least King and Arum cared about the sport and always made the superfights fans wanted most. Haymon has proven he won't do it time and time again, he only makes no risk set up showcases. he only made Wilder-Stiverne because the time has come to try to get Wilder a HWT title and they see Stiverne as more beatable than Wladimir. Boycott Al Haymon.

Has anyone brought up the idea that maybe Haymon didn't want to put the best fights on Golden Boy because he knew that he was going to make PBC for NBC which would help bring in more exposure for his fighters and give the old and new fans what they want to see. Also, don't forget a lot or most of his fighters weren't signed to Golden Boy. He's sneaky but very smart.

Regarding paying for airtime, this is a strategy that has been done before. The WWE used to buy airtime for their Smackdown series and keep the profits for advertising sold during the broadcast. They generated so much revenue doing that the host station refused to let them buy time any further and the show became a part of the network. If successful the show could be worth many times the initial investment.

Al Haymon agrees second TV deal, this time with Spike TV

"On Thursday came the formal announcement of the second Haymon television deal in two weeks, as basic cable channel Spike TV unveiled plans to air Haymon's "Premier Boxing Champions" series."

"The first card will take place March 13 (9 p.m. ET/PT) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, and be headlined by former welterweight titleholder Andre Berto (29-3, 22 KOs) against Josesito Lopez (33-6, 19 KOs). Former welterweight titleholder Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs) and Roberto Garcia (36-3, 23 KOs) will meet in the co-feature."

At this rate PBC will be on the air every week!
