Du Plooy-Snipes fight, 1988,amazing prequell to Golota-Tyson

This is one of the most amazing heavyweight fights ever, outside of some of Andrew Golota's krazy kapers, and in fact there are quite a few similarities between them! I had never seen it before, but I just watched it on Youtube. Du Plooy was beating up Snipes all fight long, a totally one sided affair, up to and including the seventh round...and then...Du Plooy just walked back to his corner and quit - and, yep, Lou Duva was in his corner and screaming at him and trying to push him back into the ring. A perfect prequel to Golota - Tyson, and I never even knew about it!

Du Plooy was a "matinee Idol" back in South Africa so of course he was probably over concerned about his teeth.

I thought for a second that it was Reddick Bowe!!!

Du Plooy was also a former rugby player turned boxer.
and also a sparring partner to Gerrie Coetzee.
I wonder for which of Coetzee's fights?

Renaldo Snipes refused the rematch with Johnny Du Plooy,
also Du Plooy was supposed to fight Big George Foreman for the WBO title in 1989,
but it never happened.

Johnny DuPlooy (27 September 1964 – 12 April 2013)

DuPlooy became grossly overweight after his retirement. He suffered from heart problems in the few years leading up to his death. Several months before his death, he had a heart attack.
