BoxRec.co.uk rip off our the .com domain??
I've had this guy called 'Darren Smith' spamming various general boxing stuff on my Boxing Ireland facebook page.
I've had to warn him multiple times to stop it. However today it took a twist when posted this link - http://boxrec.co.uk/posts/1838085/tyson ... there.html
It's a bit of a bizarre carry on and I gave him a bit of a mouthful.
"Darren I hate your 'work' and I hate your model.
Ponce material off iFL. Spam it around facebook. Steal BoxRec's domain and pass yourself off as them.
Seriously!? What's the end game? If you put half the effort into original content as you did ripping others off for content people would have a lot more respect for you. At the moment I'm cringing."

His top banner is made of pictures of famous fighters and I am going to guess that he has not contacted the copyright owners for permission to use those pictures. If it annoys you that much, just reverse google image some of the pictures, contact the copyright owners and they will sue him. I doubt he can afford to defend it so will close the site. Objective achieved.

On top of that, he's claiming to be BoxRec News.
I'm assuming John Shep has the BoxRec name copyrighted.
All this guy is trying to do is leach off other people's work.

He's probably an enterprising youngster who needs a bit of direction. There's no need to set the dogs on the poor lad, just explain the error of his ways. No credible grown-up would attempt such a blatant hijack.

He's about 40. He's been at it for months. He's happy to defend his approach and doesn't see anything wrong with it.Sklar wrote:He's probably an enterprising youngster who needs a bit of direction. Re: BoxRec.co.uk rip off our the .com domain??
I would suggest just leave it. The legalities surrounding domain squatting and trademark are complex and it would be expensive to pursue.
.co.uk and .com (unlike some suffixes) are not protected so anyone can buy them. The law has not really caught up.
I would suggest that this guy is trying to be a pain in the ar se, and providing a news service to rattle boxrec.com by pretending to be a rival and hoping that boxrec.com will offer to buy the domain for a decent price.
It is extremely unlikely anyone will mistake it for the real Boxrec site and it is equally unlikely it will be ranked higher by Google.
He'll get a bit if traffic and not much else. He's not even making money off the site as far as I can see. I think his patience will run out, he will get bored, he will slow posts and then stop.
If he offers the URL for a seriously low price (and I mean a night out kind of spend) buy it to prevent this kind of sh1te but otherwise tell him to F off. Those who're bored might like to spam his own FB page to let him know it's not on.
