Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
I had it 117-111 Garcia,I'm struggling to see it even close,a draw would have been a disgrace(IMO) I just can't see this fight being close, Peterson ran for the first 6 rounds without throwing a meaningful punch,I like fighters who can box on their toes, stick n move,in and out but for the first half there was no "stick" or "in" from Lamont just running, granted he was doing well to avoid a lot of shots and his footwork was great but if you fight on the backfoot then you gotta throw sharp combinations or at least solid shots,Peterson done neither,
Peterson did well second half but still gave away a couple of rounds I thought but he did finish well and Danny looked as though he was struggling but too little to late I thought
The thing is I had both Trout and Lara beating Alvarez,Dirrell beating Froch,Magdaleno beating Martinez so its not as if I don't like backfoot fighters, probably the opposite in fact but you have to get the balance right and Peterson's punch output in the first 6 rounds was bordering on zero
In saying All that,it does look like I'm in the minority :surprised:

Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
I think it comes down to this; If you hate boxing/running/moving like Peterson did the first half, you gave all of those rounds to Garcia. I have not seen punch stats, but wouldn't be surprised if Peterson out-landed Garcia during that time, even though most were jabs. Easy win for Garcia if you hate that style.
Over-all, I thought Peterson either deserved a draw, or very close win. Not going to complain either way though. I just wish the fight meant something.

I feel that Peterson won the bout but I can see how they came up with the score that they did. You don't need a degree in Boxing to see that Peterson clearly kicked Garcia's ass last night. If this was a fight in the schoolyard, everyone would clearly say Peterson won but it's not. The first 4 rounds are just as important as the last 4 rounds, where Peterson put some serious hurt on Garcia.
Not sure when these boxers and trainers will finally get it. Boxing officials are not going to award you with the win when you are running these days. They are not going to encourage a style that is not crowd pleasing and I completely agree with it and I commend them. If they would have given Lara the nod against Alvarez then you would have a hundred more runners ready to institute that style in their next bout. I say good for boxing, nice job. But Peterson clearly outclassed Garcia last night in my opinion.

115-113 Garcia.
Peterson lost this fight Garcia didn't beat him, if that makes any sense.
You can't blatantly run during a round and expect that round to be scored in your favor.

Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
115to113 Peterson gave one or two rounds away by showboating.Peterson outboxed Garcia but didn't win enough rounds to get the victory.
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
A poll would be good. I had it 114:114.
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
I didn't score round by round but did think Peterson won the bout, I imagined before that Garcia would land the damaging punches. Peterson negated Garcia the first 3rd of the bout by his movement which frustrated Garcia, he then started mixing it up and the last 3 rounds took it straight to Garcia and bashed him up pretty much. Garcia plodded the whole bout.

I scored the fight 120-108 for Terence Crawford.
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
If we forget about scores, Peterson clearly looked like a better boxer often making Garcia look awkward. Garcia's face condition also voted for Peterson's win.

Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
While I can understand and appreciate the criticisms about Peterson running and dancing too much, I really felt he should have gotten the nod. Garcia didn't look good in there at all and at no point was he ever In control. Peterson was busier, landed more effectively, and when changing fight strategy, even beat Danny at his own game. Garcia said after the match "you can't win a fight by running " , implying that Lamont hid for dear life from him. But In all probability I think he knew his ass had just gotten kicked.....

115-113 Garcia.
Close fight could of gone either way.But I thought Garcia edged it.

Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
I had it 114-114, a draw. Peterson killed himself but not getting started early enough. If he did, I think he clearly would have won. I think either man could have edged it 115-113, but if I HAD to pick a winner, it was Garcia.
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
I had it 115-113 Garcia but for a weird reason at the end of the fight i really thought that Peterson was the best guy in the ring.
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
Because he looked like a better boxer, and Garcia didn't land anything hard enough to disprove that.Cloutov wrote:I had it 115-113 Garcia but for a weird reason at the end of the fight i really thought that Peterson was the best guy in the ring.
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
Least contact LP ever had in a fight he said lol.. Danny got lucky. Again.
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
I wanted Peterson to get the nod.
A typical example of the 10-9 system failing.
Garcia definitely won more of the early rounds but barely. Peterson won his rounds quite big. I know it wont happen but there needs to be a difference in the scoring for dominating a round compared to nicking it. 10-9 for nicking it, 10-8 for dominating, 10-8 for close but with a knockdown. 10-7 for dominating with a knock down.

There's no reason why you can't score a round 10-8 without a knockdown. It is unusual but it can happen. Personally I didn't see any 10-8 rounds in that fight and I don't think the 10-8 system is floored either. If you want to change the system maybe a boxer should be deducted a point for not even attempting to throw punches like Peterson didn't for the first few rounds?
Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
Yeah something like that. It just doesn't sit well that fighter A can win the first 6 rounds razor thin and fighter B can win the second 6 rounds big but with no KD's and its a draw. Technically I know that's right but really fighter B deserves the nod. Although I know this isn't a common scenario.Ian1973 wrote:danamba7 wrote:I wanted Peterson to get the nod.

Re: Garcia vs Peterson. Your Score
The system isn t to blame in this one. Peterson is. He should have started boxing before and he would have won. Is game plan was good he just waited to long before he stop running

That said it's a bit like Eubank junior vs BJ Saunders.
IF Peterson / Eubank had engaged earlier, it becomes a totally different fight. It doesn't mean either would've won.

LP 115 - 113. I 'spose the above may have some indication why opinions are so divided in this one.
