But Ali is of mixed race (he has some white ancestors on both sides) while Frazier (and Liston who he made similar comments about) were black. Ali's wife (mother of Laila) was also mixed, but mostly of white heritage. Some say Ali felt superior to and was disrespectful to people of 100% African heritage, hence the "gorilla" comments.
