No, I'm with you in a sense. I suspect it'll be an easy fight for Joshua that may be done and dusted inside two rounds. That said, it's a domestic grudge match that there's a demand for and the hyped build up will help train Joshua to cope with similar situations down the line when there's a tougher opponent to face.Horse wrote:Am I the only one that thinks this match up is rubbish?

Whyte has done bugger all as a pro. Why does this no mark get so much hype?

I agree completely, this cant be top of a PPV card surly.
I heard Edie saying that his London date in December isn't at the o2, I wonder what venue this will be held at. Any ideas?

Not ppv unless he swaps Murray for either groves, froch ward or GGG.wesshaw1985 wrote:DeGale vs. Murray

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Not a PPV fight on its own. But if it's part of a stacked card like the last PPV then I have no problems paying for it.
Good fight for Joshua. First fight against someone with ambition.
Good fight for Whyte. His profile will be increased.
I think Joshua will win and gradually get moved to world honours.
I can see Whyte being British champion in the future. I rate him higher than Cornish and Towers. Rate Hughie Fury higher though. Can see Whyte being a good British-European level fighter over the next few years.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
This is a good match, fair play to Hearn for making it. Whyte won't be scared of AJ after his previous win, you tend to see that when one guy has beaten another (including in the ams) he always fancies his chances in a return, even if the loser first time round is fancied to reverse the result. That will make it harder for AJ to show he's the guv'nor. Still, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread that makes it a good match for AJ at this stage in his career. He's still not been in a proper fight remember, I think he will get to show what he's made of this time round.

I think we need a poll for whether this will be PPV....
Once the Tv hype machine starts, and daddy Barry talks about how it's the best all british heavyweight fight since Lewis-Bruno, how lucky british boxing fans are (remember Barry saying We should be very jealous of anyone who had tickets to Clev-Bellew 2), and how 'stacked' the undercard will be..... BING! £24.95 please guv'nor!

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Dud fight. Whyte is being vastly overrated. Decent fighter but still very raw and wild.
Really hoped it would be Wach in september. Very good chin and good offensively. Dangerous enough and almost certainly would give josh rounds. He needs that type of test not an overhyped "domestic showdown"

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
It's not a superfight or ppv worthy, but neither should it be at this stage of Joshua's career. It's a legitimate fight for the British title, and usually we all bemoan fighters NOT having these fights. People who criticise any fight that's not for the title as pointless are like those who call fighters useless for only being second or third all time at their weight. Stop whinging, it'll be fun.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Whyte reminds me a bit of Pele Reid. He's got that low-handed, push-jab into overhand-right style. Too slow-footed and open for Joshua, but you never know.
I expect Joshua to come out throwing some serious leather, and Whyte needs to meet him in the centre. If Whyte backs away from the bell, it's already over. Whyte's best hope is to keep it close and try and thread a right hand through Joshua's guard on the counter. I don't think he has enough head movement to stay out of trouble, but he can't afford to give Joshua leverage on the outside.
Joshua isn't nearly the inside fighter that Lewis was. (Not to mention Louis!)

I can't wait I think the timing of this fight is in Joshua's favour but then that's probably why Hearn was so eager to make this contest

No I think it's 'rubbish' too Horse, I also agree that 'Whyte has done bugger all' and he get's 'so much hype' because of the amateur win over Joshua.Horse wrote:Am I the only one that thinks this match up is rubbish?

Easy win for Joshua now, two round max I reckon.

Joshua has looked impressive against very limited opposition.
Whyte has looked good against even worse opposition.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Like it, a domestic heavyweight grudge match between 2 prospects beats the hell out of the usual local star v some doorman from Poland.
Whyte may be a complete fraud, but no one knows for sure until the first punches land.
It's a great undercard fight for sure, unbeaten star looking to avenge an amateur loss, heavyweight punchers and insults flying, it's gonna be fun - not main event and not PPV though.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
He finished the match against Michael Grant with an inside uppercut, but I think that was out of necessity because of Grant's holding. The above guy's point is sound, Joshua hasn't developed much of a close-quarters game yet.Tuan_Jim wrote:Lewis wasn't an inside fighter at all. Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
I think we can now be sure that despite 'Fury, Wach, Price, Chisora' etc being mentioned, the route that Matchroom is taking with Joshua is more akin to Wilder than Chisora etc.
By about 15 fights Chisora had fought Fury, Vitali and Helenius. And had a twice postponed fight with Wladimir.
By his 15th fight it's looking like Joshua's most competive match will have been vs Gary Cornish.
Sad.

That's not "inside fighting", with Grant thrust down by Lewis' elbow and bent double; the shot was illegal!surfthehurf wrote:He finished the match against Michael Grant with an inside uppercut, but I think that was out of necessity because of Grant's holding. Lewis was not an inside fighter at all. Didn't like it there, didn't trust his chin in there. Joshua might need some inside arsenal versus Whyte, will be interesting to see what he does. These giants are invariably giant targets on the inside, excepting Bowe.
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Chisora hadn't won an Olympic Gold medal and been salaried on a £250k wage for a number of years [before FCUK sponsorship] - Del Boy had to the best of my knowledge - a full time job when he was fighting Fury, Helnius & Vitali.Horse wrote:Chisora: 15-0 - 4 years & 5 monthsMaxsplit wrote:I think we can now be sure that despite 'Fury, Wach, Price, Chisora' etc being mentioned, the route that Matchroom is taking with Joshua is more akin to Wilder than Chisora etc.

And Joshua will be 14-0 when he beats Cornish.
It's an unequivocally Feeble/embarrassing opponent list Joshua has vs Chisora in the same number of fights.

Nope, Lewis.Tuan_Jim wrote:Lewis wasn't an inside fighter at all. Do you mean Bowe?
I compared Joshua to Lewis 'because' Lewis wasn't a natural on the inside (similar attributes), but he learnt how to spoil and sneak in those uppercuts as time went by. If Joshua's still a Mason-era Lewis, I'd give Whyte a slim chance if he can keep it close.Tuan_Jim wrote:That's not "inside fighting", with Grant thrust down by Lewis' elbow and bent double; the shot was illegal!

Time is more important than the number of fights when talking about a fighter's progression.
Joshua is moving forward at a good pace. What reason is there for him to rush to world level within the next few months?
