Did anybody mention the FOTC? A fight for the ages! There won't be another fight like it

Is this fight also referred to as The Thrilla In Manilla? I thought that fight was regarded as the fight of the century.elmersalsa wrote:Did anybody mention the FOTC? A fight for the ages! There won't be another fight like it

Wilson vs McCarthy for the ending. Then Nelson vs Fenech II or McGuigan vs Laporte.

For me the list would contain to show a non fight fan.
- Israel Vazquez v Rafael Marquez four fight series
Nigel Benn v Chris Eubank two fight series
Arturo Gatti v Micky Ward trilogy
Alfredo Angulo v Erislandy Lara's 10 round shoot out

Yes it was a truly great fight. Not being an Ali fan I often forget about this one and what a true classic battle it was. Joe was amazing that fight,

A truly great fight, but I think it was too high brow for the non boxing fan to appreciate the subtlety & nuances.elmersalsa wrote:Did anybody mention the FOTC? A fight for the ages! There won't be another fight like it
You need a fight that was almost amateurish with knock downs and/or blood & guts to truly grip non boxing fans, I believe.
Hagler -v- Hearns is a good one in that respect because it was short & it was like a street fight, but with boxing gloves & a referee. :P

Speaking for my personal experience, the 1975 bout between Roberto Duran and Ray Lampkin in Panama made me a life-long fan.

There's a pretty obscure fight that I watched recently (it was recommended to me) - Ray Mancini vs Orlando Romero - I'd recommend it to anyone. Good, good fight.

Yes. Ray Lampkin was no joke. He gave Manos de Piedra all he could handle. They went toe to toe at incredible paceNorm wrote:Speaking for my personal experience, the 1975 bout between Roberto Duran and Ray Lampkin in Panama made me a life-long fan.

Benn v Watson did the trick for me

Yes, great fight that made Kaitidis look better than he was but was one to remember!

It's often the obscure fights that are the best ones.Crease wrote:There's a pretty obscure fight that I watched recently (it was recommended to me) - Ray Mancini vs Orlando Romero - I'd recommend it to anyone. Good, good fight.
My original pick was one of the most obscure fights ever, but you'd struggle to see a more exciting bout.

Holy vs Dokes good call. Watched it again the other night. Dokes could fight. Bit of a wasted talent.

I watched it again recently as well - think it was the first time I sat down and rewatched the entire fight since the event itself. Agree it was very hard viewing, particularly the commentary which clearly missed all the signs of McLellan showing distress. Obviously we have the benefit of hindsight now so can't criticise too much - but I really think people are much more on the ball & knowledgeable about the signs of brain injuries these days, probably as a direct result of that fight.handsofstone wrote:I watched it again recently and it was quite tough viewing,i dont think i'll watch it againTomasino wrote:littlepug wrote:benn v mclellan and chavez v taylor, under no circumstances show nelson v de leon
Benn vs Mclellan would put a lot of non boxing fans off boxing. It's a fight I've never seen twice. Horrible fight.
And, despite being tough viewing at times, it really does stand up as a great fight.
