Jack Dempseys real record

Post by dawudbryant »

According to Cyber boxing zone, Dempseys record is 66-6-11 with 51 wins by knockout.
Boxrec has his record as 58-6-11, 44 wins by ko (newspaper decisions included). Thats 7 ko wins and 1 decision missing.
Boxrec explains why they don't accept the 6 wins in the 'Jack Demsey Revue' show but there still remains two extra wins on his record, one which was his second pro fight on 2nd Nov 1914 vs One punch Hancock which he won by KO1, and one fight which came after he beat George Carpentier, a defence of the title which he won by 4 round decision vs a fighter called Jimmy Darcy on 22nd July 1922. Why are these not on Dempseys boxrec record?

Also, please can boxrec start including the newspaper decisions in the record total rather than just adding it underneath in a separate table? If you keep them all together in the actual record why not include them in the total at the top?

Thanks

I feel Dempseys record should be 66-6-11 (51 ko's).

I imagine he fought far more than that, records from that era aren't easy to verify especially when he fought under aliases.

Good luck with that, considering he had about 100 bare knuckle fights before putting on gloves. Every once in a great while a newspaper article is found, and adds on to the Dempsey legend. The long shot bet would be to hope that the great-great grandchildren of locals had journals, pictures, newspapers from the time that gives a mention of Dempsey while as Kid Blackie.

But I wouldn't count on it. It's taken researchers over fifty or sixty years to find ONE MATCH of the 59 that Louis L'Amour was apart of. Carnival fighters, especially, are all but impossible to track down.

Exhibitions have no place on a real boxing record. People have been trying for years to get Dempseys rexhibitions into his record to pad it. No dice.
