IBF STRIPS FURY; GLAZKOV-MARTIN PURSE BID ON FOR DECEMBER 18TH
By Scott Shaffer
The IBF has declared the heavyweight title vacant and ordered Vyacheslav Glazkov to fight Charles Martin for the vacant title.Tyson Fury had just won the world championship from Wladimir Klitschko last week, but had promised Klitschko an immediate rematch, which is a violation of IBF rules. Presumably Fury-Klitschko II will go ahead with the WBO and WBA championships at stake. As soon as Fury was stripped, Martin's promoter requested an immediate purse bid and the IBF complied, scheduling Glazkov and Martin for a December 18th purse bid in New Jersey. Martin was scheduled to fight Dominic Brezeale this weekend on NBC, but Martin quickly pulled out as soon as the opportunity to fight for the IBF title arose.
According to Patrick English, Glazkov's attorney, the decision to strip Fury was based on the way mandatory defenses are handled in cases of unified champions. "There is a well-established rotation system among the ratings organizations when there is a unified champion," wrote English. "When Klitschko fought Fury, it was after Klitschko’s mandatory with Glazkov would have otherwise been due (it was due in August). Following the rotation system, Glazkov stood aside and without any protest watched the Klitschko/Fury bout be scheduled, then postponed, and then rescheduled - all during the period when it would otherwise be his turn to fight the mandatory for the [IBF] heavyweight title. He stood aside because of the rotation system, which made it the turn of the WBA/WBO to enforce their mandatories. However, everyone knew going into the Klitschko/Fury fight that it was Glazkov’s turn next."

Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Pathetic match up. Even the winners mother wouldn't recognize the championship
Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Dude wins a title and gets stripped 10 days later for not defending against his mandatory. What? These types of stories coming from the big 4 are why I consistently maintain that they are possibly worse than the IBO. The IBF thinks that the winner of a fight between the #1 heavyweight and the #2 heavyweight is not worthy of carrying their belt. Then, instead, they're probably going to sanction a title fight between Glazkov and Charles Martin, or some garbage like that.

Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Ridiculous, the winner may well be the worst titlist in heavyweight history. Also, Fury has his contracted rematch with Wlad, so it's not like he had much of a choice. I somehow doubt the IBF would have been this strict with Wlad.

The IBF sure didn't waste any time. Guess his name isn't Klitschko?Lackeos wrote:Dude wins a title and gets stripped 10 days later for not defending against his mandatory. What? Very risky gamble from Glazkov's team. If Martin beats Glazkov (which I expect him to do), Duva will look like a fool. If they waited for Fury - Wlad winner, they would most likely get a huge payday plus step aside money. But now Glazkov most likely will be beaten for peanuts.
Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Just a total racket.
Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Pathetic Joke.
IF a sanction body such as the IBF had ANY credibility at all they would keep the belt alive for the Fury/Klit rematch. As they would have known Wlad had a rematch clause. Which would lead you to believe that if he lost there was a chance he would activate it which he has. Fury/Klit are obviously the 2 best heavys in the world right now consisdeirng Wlad WAS the lineal champion now Fury is so #1 and #2 respectively. Would the IBF not want to be associated with the 2 best heavyweights in a rematch given that there belt was on the line in the first fight?? Makes no sense.
I also agree, Glazkov be better having a stay busy fight and waiting on the winner of the rematch as he'd end up being in line for the IBF anyway

Martin-Glaskov is a good fight. Good matchup.
Everyone knows it's not for the Heavyweight Title.

Now that Klitschko seems to be out of the picture, the belts want to separate to maximize money
by splitting the perception of who is #1.
We'll have 4 heavyweight champions by June 2016.

And by November 2018 we'll have people longing for the days of Klitschko, some one who ruled the roost and was a clear #1 taking on the top challengers regularly and being the centre point of the division...BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Now that Klitschko seems to be out of the picture, the belts want to separate to maximize money

Sounds about right. Does this mean Charles Martin is going to pull out of his fight with Dominic Breazeale? Or is he still going through with that?

Martin has certainly done it tough to get his title shot. In his last 5 fights he's fought fighters boxrec ranked;
187, 248, 96, 493 and 326
Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Martin is the best possible opponent one could ever get in a HW title fight. If Glazkov can't beat Martin, then there is no point to get involved in any title fight.Boxing Writer wrote:Very risky gamble from Glazkov's team. I am not sure what IBF motives are. They would definitely get way better money from the rematch sanctioning fees than from a few fights of either Martin or Glazkov. Maybe they are just trying to enforce rules?

IBF has to enforce their rules because the crooks that created it were dumb enough to base it in the US. The Feds keep getting in their shit and busting them because they can't help themselves but be crooked, but Minor Events is taking full advantage of it to get their scrub a reasonable shot at a vacant belt.
Glazkov and Martin both suck and this title fight can go to hell.

Hell Sergey Kovalev could move up and take this title from Glazkov if he were so inclined if he won itzorndeslammes wrote:IBF has to enforce their rules because the crooks that created it were dumb enough to base it in the US. Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Kovalev would beat Glazkov retarded. That dude is trash. Cunningham beat his ass. Malik Scott beat his ass. Derric Rossy beat his ass. With proper camps, I'm not convinced Glazkov wouldn't get his ass beat by Garrett Wilson in a rematch. He struggled bad with a very faded Adamek. Kovalev would body bag him. I think even GGG could probably beat Glazkov. No hyperbole.

Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
this is the reason why the ibf was reckless. they didn't even give fury and klit time to work outTarkus wrote:When is the rematch? Could not he fought Gazkov in the meantime?
a date and venue. they could have scheduled it for late may/early june and fury could have
just defended the ibf vs glazkov and saved the wba/wbo against any chance of robbery or
freak accident, ensuring the title defense against klit. the defense against glazkov would be
a good first title defense for fury in england as well. usually champs WANT an easy first defense
to pick up a check and look good. wondering if fury and wlad came up with a date tomorrow
that gave fury time to fight glazkov, whether ibf would cancel the glazkov-martin purse bid.
if fury won, the ibf wouldn't be able to announce any more ridiculous mandatories for at least
a year. ibf comes off looks like garbage, here.
Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
Anthony Joshua gets a shot at this belt by the end of 2016 you watch.
I'll come back to this thread when it happens.

Re: Fury stripped of IBF heavyweight title
I think we all agree there. However I wonder if Fury did enough to retain the belt. All I am hearing is that they wanted IBF to postpone the defense after Klitschko fight, somewhere next autumn. Thats not going to happen. I dont see them attempting to slot it before the rematch. They surely knew this would be the situation long time ago.sucracristo wrote:ibf comes off looks like garbage, here.
