Ustinov got destroyed by Pulev like 4 years ago and is now pushing 40. He'd be an interesting test for one of the younger undefeated HWs like Helenius or Granat, but as a challenger for Ortiz he is 100% no-hoper.kaiserbill wrote:Just some balance:
I don't think Ustinov is as bad as some make him out to be.
He has still only lost to Pulev, who is one of the top 5 heavyweights. It's his only loss in 34 fights.
Yes I know his record isn't a who's-who of the heavyweight division, but his quality of opponents isn't that much worse, and in some cases no worse at all, than a lot of the top 10 heavyweights.
Yes I know he can be slow, but he is very large and does have certain strengths.
He has also fought 4 times in 15 months, so is currently very busy.
I personally think Ortiz will win, but again, Ustinov is not exactly a tomato can. There are quite a few heavyweights that boxrec have rated higher than Ustinov who I think Ustinov would beat quite readily.

That was the rumor a month ago but it's still not on the BoxRec schedule.Rob3_142 wrote:I thought Pulev was going to be fighting Chisora for the EBU?jujigatame wrote:IMO that's 2 consecutive downward steps for Ortiz. Dude is 36 years old, shouldn't they be rushing him to big fights ASAP?
What's Pulev up to these days, anyway?

BTW, isn't Ustinov the guy that the current undisputed HW champion ducked....after the weigh in, thinking he was being "jobbed".? Yes, you guessed right, the great Tyson Fury ducked Ustinov.Oh wait.....I forgot.....Fury's uncle was sick.
I like Fury but I agree that Ustinov got treated rotten. They were all contracted and ready to go with the pre fight interviews and all. The fight should have been postponed at the very least. Couldn't Ustinov sue for breach of contract?

Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Alexander Ustinov
It was 3 years and 5 months ago, and although it was lopsided on the scorecards till the stoppage, the fight went to within 4 minutes of the end bell, being ended in the 11th round of 12. The word destroyed, admittedly a word overused by all and sundry these days, does not fit.jujigatame wrote:Ustinov got destroyed by Pulev like 4 years ago and is now pushing 40. Your use of the phrase "he is a 100% no-hoper" is also strange. Think about it for a moment. It makes no sense.
Oh, and did you know that Ustinov at 39 is half a decade younger that Luis Ortiz last opponent 6 days ago?
Ortiz turns 37 this month, and is a whopping 2 years younger than Ustinov.
I noticed you avoided my following statement of fact: "Yes I know his record isn't a who's-who of the heavyweight division, but his quality of opponents isn't that much worse, and in some cases no worse at all, than a lot of the top 10 heavyweights."
and
"There are quite a few heavyweights that boxrec have rated higher than Ustinov who I think Ustinov would beat quite readily."
I'll reiterate again what I stated in my post, and which was the entire purpose of the post:
I personally think Ortiz will win, probably quite handily as I think he will find Ustinov easier to find and hit than Thompson, but there are people who seem to think Ustinov is a bum. He isn't. Out of the 27 opponents that Ortiz has faced in his career, you could only argue that 2 are possibly better than Ustinov, although I have my doubts about even one of those.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Alexander Ustinov
The Pulev fight was completely one-sided and ended in a TKO. It was a dominant performance and I don't think "destroyed" is a stretch.
Tony Thompson is extremely old but in his prime 7-8 years ago he was a borderline top 5 HW. Plus even in the last few years he beat both Solis and Price who are both better than anyone Ustinov has beaten in his entire career!!
Ortiz will crush Ustinov, it will not be competitive.

Ustinov is a big slow oaf with pillows in his gloves.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Alexander Ustinov
I'm not sure....I hope he could have and did. I was actually surprised Fury backed out. Ustinov is big, but would have thought Fury would beat him without too much trouble.x2x wrote:Badhusker wrote:Good fight for Ortiz, and I expect him to win by wide UD or TKO mid-late.
