Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley 3 + Arthur Abraham vs Gilberto Ramirez

Post by handsofstone »

This fight seems to be slipping under the radar a bit despite it seemingly being Pacquiao's "farewell bout" ,maybe its because after finally fighting Mayweather and not only losing but stinking out the joint, people are now bored of him,his fights previous to Floyd were quite boring too, apart from the 4th Marquez fight his fights since Hatton were quite straightforward, even the 1st Bradley fight which he shouldve won although an impressive performance was quite boring so maybe people are like myself are looking forward to a new era

As i said,i thought Pacquiao won the 1st Bradley fight easily and the rematch too but i fancy Timothy to win this 1 deservedly,i know Manny was injured against Mayweather and although he definitly lost his explosiveness over the years,he was still beating great fighters,i dont know why but i just feel after the time out and Bradley in his prime i fancy Tim to win and i have a sneaky feeling it might be a KO,Teddy will have him extinguish him :OhYes:

Looking forward to Abraham/Ramirez on the undercard too,i see Arthur losing his title(for good) in this one,i'd be surprised if Gilberto could stop him but you never know he is strong,im looking forward to it

This cards on Premier Sports so TF ive got my Android box

'looking forward to a new era'

This. Pacquiao has had a fantastic career and I hope he sticks to his guns and retires after Saturday. Same goes for Floyd. They held the sport to ransom with their 'super fight' and then gave it 'we're doing this for the fans' bolluX. I've no interest in seeing either of them in the ring again. I've enjoyed watching them over the years but their time is up. I'm looking forward to some good unifications in the welterweight division now (fingers crossed).

:TU: Agreed, ive no interest in seeing Pacquiao or Mayweather in the ring again really, they've been great servents to the sport but out with the old in with the new and all that

The thought of Floyd/Broner makes my balls ache,i'd rather see Abraham/Stieglitz 5 or Skeete/Witter

I'd like both Pacquiao and Mayweather to continue on and fight the younger generation.

From my own POV,neither guy have been in any great fights recently but are still winning(mostly) so maybe good to get out on top,Mayweather's been my best fighter for years, only in say the last year have i grown tired of him, though i do still love watching him fight despite the lack of action,Pacquiao on the other hand has lost his spark but shown decent skills over the 12 round distance

Hang on a minute im actually convincing myself i want them to continue :-P Nah for me personally i dont get excited watching either these days, its all about Gonzalez,Golovkin,Kovalev,Brook,Thurman,Crawford,Frampton etc,the new breed

Personally I can't go the whole 'that's me retired' and 'oh I'm coming back' pish. None of them are past it by any means and would give all the younger ones hell no doubt but it's the uncertainty for me plus there's no way Floyd would come back and fight a Brook, Thurman, Porter or Spence and risk his 0. If he were to comeback it would only be for a 'sure thing' just like his 'last fight' vs Berto.

As HandsofStone mentioned, the Broner fight makes my fuckin teeth itch! Staged, gives that little helmet a payday he doesn't deserve and an easy win for Floyd. Oh and a hell of a boring fight into the bargain after all the regurgitated smack talk and hollow promises in the build up. Time to move over.

There are too many good fights for them both to have for me to want them to retire.

I don't see how them moving over helps other fighters though.

Them retiring doesn't give added credibility to anyone else.

Maybe not but credit will come when (hopefully) they all fight each other. Anyone in or around the division just now and the last few years have been reluctant to fight the other top guys because most of them all harbour hopes of being picked in the 'Mayweather sweepstakes' (I think he calls em). You take that out of the equation then there's more of a chance of all the rest fighting one another IMO. I just feel the two of them (especially Floyd) hold the sport to ransom especially when they fought each other.

I don't think the big fights are any more likely to happen when they retire.

Beating another top fighter would have been the best way of trying to force a fight with Mayweather or Pacquaio.

A lot of these fighters simply lack ambition (e.g. Brook).

Brooks hand has been forced now with Khan fighting Canelo. If he doesn't take a big fight next then he's going to look a right cock and I'm a fan of the guy.

Not sure about the other fights being any more likely to happen. I'd like to think the others may be more inclined to try and unify with them two out the picture. I live in hope. Pacquiao isn't what he was (although still very capable). If Floyd came back and signed a 2/3/4 fight deal and was looking to take on the Brooks/Thurmans/Spence etc then I wouldn't have a problem but we all know he won't.

Brook already looks like a cock, in my opinion.

If he fights someone good this year then he might start to look like less of one.

They should be doing it anyway.

There's no real reason for them to wait until Mayweather and Pacquiao have retired to do it, less reason really.

Mayweather might fight some of that lot and I can see Pacquiao fighting Crawford soon if he continues.

Some of these guys don't fight each other because it's a risk and they'd make a hell of a lot more fighting Mayweather. They stall and play the waiting game. Pac v Crawford I'd like to see. I doubt Floyd would fight any of the names I mentioned.

I'm a big fan of Brook and talent wise he is as good as/if not the best fitter we have to offer at the moment but he's a frustrating guy. If he doesn't fight a top contender next then that confirms what a lot of people have been saying. I think he will but won't hold my breath.

Why would Mayweather fight someone like Thurman or Brook unless it's a very big fight with a lot of pressure on him to make it?

These dangerous opponents need to make themselves the obvious choice for his next opponent, otherwise he'll fight someone with a better risk vs reward ratio and they'll be left fannying about doing nothing.

They're not waiting around for a chance to fight Mayweather, they're just waiting around.

Why would he want to fight unproven, but dangerous opponents? Makes no sense.

Any fight for Mayweather is a big fight no matter who he is facing. That's why he gets away with fighting guys like Berto, Ortiz, Guerrero. Mayweather has retired and we have Thurman v Porter to look forward to. If Spence wins he mandatory for Brook. These fights will happen. You have Garcia in the mix too. Maybe I'm being cynical but it looks as if they're trying to set the scene for Floyd v Broner and I don't want to see that. Also if Manny beats Bradley I have no interest in seeing him fight Floyd again. If Mayweather fights again he should fight one of the few guys we've been talking about. He goes on about legacy etc.. Any of the guys mentioned are far better for his legacy than Broner or even Pacquiao again.

Thurman vs Porter would have happened anyway.

Mayweather doesn't deserve the blame for certain fighters being chickens.

Broner is only about as good as Malignaggi at welterweight. A win against him isn't worth very much.

No a win against Broner means nothing. Maybe if Broner was half as good as he thought he was and unbeaten they could've billed it as 'master v student' or some americanised pish like that but nah, not for me.

Not Floyds fault directly for certain fighters not facing each other but he's strung certain guys along in the past and held their careers up. Obviously these guys have to shoulder some of the blame too. I'm all for him and Pac continuing if they're going to fight the up and comers but not against each other and certainly not against guys like Broner and Berto.

Isn't it only Khan who hung around doing nothing waiting for Mayweather?

Yeah he took it to a new level did Amir. I thought he was going to end up doing a Shannon Briggs and chasing him about. Mayweather has pissed loads of people about directly and indirectly over the years though. A few he did go on to fight to be fair.

If he announced a comeback tomorrow and never named an opponent straight up it would stall any negotiations that are going on or scheduled to take place with other fighters around the weight. Not his fault but that's the influence he has.

Its a good fight and a nice undercard. I am a bit underwhelmed though because Pac won both fights pretty clearly. I don't think Bradley is any better, so the only thing that is of intrigue is the question of how much Pac has slipped since they last fought. If Bradley wins deservedly this time, then it might impact of Floyd's legacy a bit.

Still two quality operators, probably 1 and 2 at Welter currently (Brook has to beat more than 1 person in the top 20 to justify a #1 ranking) - they've produced 2 good fights, but its not like Pac vs Marquez as Pac has shown to be better, only way Bradley can win is if Pacquiao has gone old overnight.

On the "should they fight on?" topic, If it was announced next week that Pacquiao/Bradley winner was going to fight the Thurman vs Porter winner then fight the winner of a Garcia vs Spence fight
and Mayweather had chosen to fight Kell brook, with the winner of that fighting the winner of Khan vs Canelo for a legit 154lb light middleweight title, then I'd say fight on. But none of those fights will happen in any combination

If these 2 continue it'll be Floyd vs Broner and Pacquiao vs JMM 5, to lead us to a Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 superfight, with maybe a Mosley fight slotted in somewhere.... No thanks!
