This is a true life Rocky Balboa story

Post by bogan whisperer »

HIS manager says it is a true “Rocky Balboa” story.

It’s a cliche line in boxing circles, but in the case of Victorian Kane Watts it probably rings true.

Watts, 34, is preparing for what he said is the biggest fight of his life — a showdown with Danny Green for the Australian cruiserweight title at Hisense Arena on Wednesday night.

Watts, from the Mornington Peninsula, is a plumber by trade and also part owns a gym, but he put all of that on hold once the match-up with Green was announced.

“This is the first fight for my whole career where I’ve been able to take a back seat with work and really concentrate on boxing,” Watts said.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I didn’t want to have any regrets later on that I might have left a stone or two unturned.”

“This is the biggest fight I’ve ever had by far, we’ve been pretty lucky that we were picked up for this one,” he said.

“I think he might have looked at me and thought I was a bit of an easy target — but I’m not. I’ll certainly show him a different story on the night.”

Nobody likes an underdog more than Aussies do. Good luck to Watts. He has been give a great opportunity and has nothing to lose.

Hope Kane wins. It would be Rocky like. If it's at the full CW limit it would increase his chances.

With Green likely to meet Mundine at an 83kg limit within 6 months, it's hard to imagine Green coming in at more than about 86kg against Watts.

If the Watts fight was at the cruiserweight limit of 90.7kg Green would then be handing Watts a weight advantage of around 4.7kg (over 10 pound).

Unlikely I'd say.

Watts may well do that. Green has only fought once in about 5 years, and at 43 he is vulnerable. But the catch is Watts has only gone beyond 6 rounds twice.

I think Green will be probably be content to sit behind his jab, accumulating rounds until an opening presents. But Green is a dinosaur in boxing terms and there is a steep cliff waiting for guys his age that they usually don't even see coming. We have already seen what happened to Sam Soliman and Vic Darchinyan.

A big weight advantage..................what was it 4.7kg's and Mundine will be giving away 10kg's to Green what a scam :brick:

I saw the Soliman fight. His opponent was a real prospect I think. Never seen a watts fight. Seen plenty of green fights though and if he (green) feels pressured, either by getting punched or the presence of the bloke he seems to tense up massively and then it's all downhill from there if green can't get them out of there early. But yea if your saying watts hasn't gone more than 6 then he might struggle. Might go to the cards.

Watts has gone more than 6 a couple of times.

Agree with you on the guy who stopped Soliman. Looks very formidable.

“Kane is very confident and he’s a big obstacle. He’s younger than me, very physically strong, a heavy puncher and he’s got nothing to lose. He’s won nine fights in a row, his last four fights have all been KO wins so he’s full of fight for this one’’ - Danny Green

“I have to be very careful because he can punch but if he tries to out-muscle me in close he’ll get a big surprise’’ Green said.

Mundine will be allowed to weigh in at up to the full 83kg against Green. He certainly won't weigh in 10kg less. Don't tell me you are buying that stuff?

Still dummy weigh-in. Weigh-in can't be more than 24 hrs of scheduled show's start.

Only put the numbers up for academic interest.

It does at least suggest Watts will come in quite a bit heavier than Green.

This talk of 10kg weight difference between Mundine and Green is pure fallacy.

As you said yourself, Mundine is likely to come in around 78kg. With Green at 83kg the difference is 5kg NOT 10.

Once the dehydrated ghost rehydrates to 87 kilos he should be around 8kgs heavier than Mundine come fight night
