I miss Carl Froch!
Re: I miss Carl Froch!
He's a fornicating legend. If he was mexican his people would worship him like a god. But we have moaning fans who sound like women saying they don't like his personality hahahahaha
Re: I miss Carl Froch!
Froch is up there with my favourite British boxers of recent years. Loved Ricky Hatton until he became a bit of a dick after the Pacquiao loss, lot of time for Ricky burns and Froch was a total warrior who would take on anyone. Aye he is deffo a bit arrogant and the fame has went to his head a bit though.
Re: I miss Carl Froch!
It's natural to miss a great competitor like Froch.
There just isn't many boxers who want to take successive & numerous difficult fights.

He goes out round my way often, he isn't giving it the big un or being arrogant. He's approachable and gives people the time of day. Re: I miss Carl Froch!
Froch is probably my favourite fighter ever. I remember watching him on the Friday night Sky shows when he was just coming through to become British champion and taking a shine to his personality. To subsequently watch him become a real world star and prove himself a true warrior in some great fights, testing himself against the best was heartwarming. As others have said he earned the right to be arrogant many times over and I concur that he exhibits swagger rather than arrogance. His oft repeated comment that his next fight will be the one that " catapults me to superstardom" always tickled me. His last second stoppage of Taylor which I watched as live was the only time watching a fight that I've ever jumped up and down celebrating in the manner you do when a crucial goal goes in for your team.
If Ward nullifies Kovalev when they meet then Carl's resume looks even more impressive given that there were mitigating factors to explain his only other defeat against Kessler. He's missed but I'm glad he got out on his own terms when he did.

Too easy. A British great for me.

Haha I was just about to say the same thing. I'd rather have 10 Froch's than a bit of a fake humble guy like Joshua who is playing a PR game to win popularity with the public. People fall for that bullshit though, which is funny to me, but I guess Froch was a bit more honest/less contrived and not able to play that game as well.Boxerbeetle wrote:Don't forget AJrd350lc wrote:You are probably right , but there are some elite fighters that don't come across like that , Golovkin springs to mind .samwbr wrote:An elite level fighter getting stick for being arrogant is mad.

Not really; ability and personality are different things.samwbr wrote:An elite level fighter getting stick for being arrogant is mad.
Someone could be the greatest, most proven fighter ever, but that doesn't mean they have to be arrogant and carry a chip on their shoulder. I don't see any problem with people acknowledging Froch's achievements, while adding that didn't take to his personality.

I miss him, rarely had a dull fight and fought everyone. Some of todays fighters and their continued shitty defences should look at Froch and take note.
Starting from Pascal in 2008 it's a row of quality names. Even before he stepped up to world level he was continuously facing good Euro and British level opponents like Brian Magee and Tony Dodson.

He drove me mad on telly and GOmez did on here. For years. Got to give him credit now he's gone, though. I was at both Groves fights and thought the atmosphere was better at the first. One of the true shocking moments when he got dropped, a bit like Khan-Prescott, except there was 3 times more people there and Froch got up and had a war. He'll be content with what he's done. I can't imagine a guy with his personality could have lived with losing the Wembley rematch. I think he missed a trick there, he should have retired in the ring on the microphone, then he'd have got a proper send off.

I miss the fact that we had a top Brit who constantly fought the best and was involved in some great fights. Was never mad on himnpersonality wise though.

I remember following Froch on his early BBC days. Part of the Real class of 2002 with the likes of Thirwall and David Walker. It was a privilege to witness his success.handsofstone wrote:Good postCaptainSpacerod wrote:Froch is probably my favourite fighter ever. And to be fair Froch's arrogance never really convinced. More like positive self-talk and self-promotion:

Re: I miss Carl Froch!
Froch went on a run of top level fights that was the best run of any post war British fighter (taking out Mack).
Great fighter and sorely missed.
I miss him most because you knew he was lining up a 50/50 fight or 60/40 at worst.
With the Froch/Hatton debate. It's a close one and I wouldn't moan if someone had it different but I'd favour Hatton. Two weight world champion and Froch was never quite #1 SM in the world.

Re: I miss Carl Froch!
It's hard to get any perspective on Hatton. At the time I thought he was the best thing since sliced bread, but I was a pure mongy casual back then as opposed to the hardcore casual I am now. Tszyu, Collazo, Mallinaggi, shot Castillo, Urango, Mausa... KO'd by Floyd but nobody came to fight him again like that for quite a while, smashed to bits by the peakest Manny possible, almost glowing green with juice.PredatorHayds wrote:Froch went on a run of top level fights that was the best run of any post war British fighter (taking out Mack).

I suppose Ricky was the clear no.1 at LWW for quite a while.
I do think that SMW was just a better division back then though (edit: Froch's era, post Calzaghe), much better than it is now and better than LWW was in Hatton's day. And with Ward Froch kind of had the Mayweather in his division, rather than the one above.
I'm going to side with Froch. Hatton was all Bernard Manning, pies, cruises and darts and I fornicating hate all that working men's club shite. Fat blokes with red noses who feel sorry for themselves. Urgh, no thanks!
Re: I miss Carl Froch!
I was the same with Hatton. Back then I followed him just as much as Froch and wasn't as bothered about who they actually fought or what it meant. I used to watch every single fight available, an undercard on Friday Fight Night or a main event with similar enthusiasm, I just loved boxing so I could be sold anything.clopixolacuphase wrote: It's hard to get any perspective on Hatton. Now I'm cynical and see through the hype and mismatches, of which there are plenty.
With the hindsight of looking back at both career records on Boxrec and seeing what level guys they really fought (often hard to do at the time), I think it's clear to see Hatton got carefuly guided to where he could take the big fights, using his massive fanbase as leverage, he got many opponents at the right time, many were hand-picked. Froch just had to graft his way there, taking on whoever was champ or mandatory at that moment in time, particularly in the years when Hennessy lost his TV deals and he had to go into opponents backyards during the Super 6. Froch had few favours, not a lot of hype and a small-ish fanbase (8,000 in Nottingham) until the later years.
Who had more marquee fights (win or lose), more fame and brought more wider interest to British boxing? Hatton. Who won more fights and more belts against very live opponents still in their peak years? Froch. Those would be my answers.
Re: I miss Carl Froch!
The one you mention v Pascal was a highly watchable entertaining scrap as were most he was in . There will be others to take his place from the UK , just a matter of time , could be a bloody long time tho' ! .tigermoth87 wrote:I miss him, rarely had a dull fight and fought everyone. The fight with Pascal was incredible and probably underated, ive been watching loads of old classics the last few years and that fight was better than a lot of them
People reckon DeGale could have been all wrong for him but could you imagine James fading, laying on the ropes etc? Even if Froch had lost every previous round, you know he had the power, conditioning to finish him,i wouldnt give any SMW in the world a sniff if they were to allow Carl Froch to just tee off on them,he was a wrecking machine when he got someone where he wanted them

Re: I miss Carl Froch!
I'd have picked Froch over DeGale any day of the week, even at 37. Froch was a hard, battle tested man, and DeGale might have been awkward for a bit, but he wouldn't have been able to keep Froch honest for the duration, and at some point Froch gets him.handsofstone wrote:The fight with Pascal was incredible and probably underated, ive been watching loads of old classics the last few years and that fight was better than a lot of them
