I am surprised no Rb R for Canelo-Smith

Post by Lancenix »

Canelo has won 4 of the first 5 rounds. I gave round 5 to Smith. Not a bad fight.

After 6 rounds it is 6 to 0 or 5-1 for Canelo. But Smith is a gritty, gutty fighter who is giving more than I thought he would.

Smith went down in the 7th for the first time in his career. Big right hand to the temple. Smith though came back and fought strong at the end of the round.

I'm surprised too! I can't afford to spend £60 to watch Canelo fight B+ fighters. Champions or not. I'm not cheap, I just can't afford it. There are 3 or 4 fights I have to buy every year. That includes MMA.

Smith went down on a body shot late in the 8th. He is going to go on but he is down 7-1 or 8-0. I am wondering if the towel will come in soon. But Smith is a tough dude.

This fight just ended on a vicious and I mean vicious body shot to the liver. Fight over! Canelo got hit with a lot of good shots in the fight though and is there to be hit.

To me I can see why Canelo is fighting a guy like Smith at 154. This is more of a fight he belongs in. He is not stepping in with GGG because he is not in his class. He should stay fighting these types of fighters. Good win for him over a fighter in his skill level and class. He should stay in this class.

You have to make any excuses.
People are making less money, so of course you have to be wiser with your purchases.

When I was growing up in this same country, people used to come together against money grabs like this.
Now, credit cards or good fortune has made some people think others are cheap for not spending over $60 to watch Canelo/Smith.

You forgot the word DON'T in your first sentence which changed the whole context of your post.

Canelo claimed after the fight that his team offered GGG 3X more money than they did in the first negotiation but GGG turned in down. Of course no one knows what 3 X of what the initial offer was.

The guy Canelo is fighting tonight is absolutely not a B+ fighter Canelo is a B+ fighter fighting a D+ fighter.

I just read the offer is twice what GGG has ever been paid for a fight, but it may end up being a bs offer if Canelo gets most or all of the ppv for example. We will have to wait and see. GGG may have to fight Jacobs next anyway. I don't expect Canelo vs GGG until next fall. It will be a better fight than most think, but GGG will have to fade a bit more before he loses. Canelo could get the fake W if he makes it all 12 though.

It sounds like the offer is flat $10m with no ppv share. The question is what a date is. If that is for next September, then why they are talking about it now?

No PPV share.......about what I figured. No way will team GGG accept, and would not blame them. It's one thing making your biggest payday, but no PPV share? Pac turned down $40 million because of that. Much more money to be made in PPV with these kind of fights.

I didn't see you taking Pacquiao's side back then.

Oscar De La Hoya confirmed Canelo’s claims and Tom Loeffler corroborated the fact that there have been contract negotiations with GBP. The K2 chief was reluctant to go into specifics, but he did confirm that the 160lbs weight wasn’t an issue, but it seems that there is a sticking point that awaits a decision by Canelo and his promoter.

Nobody knows the specific terms of the contract, so there’s no point in jumping to all sorts of derogatory conclusions without possessing all the facts.

The interesting thing is… have K2 ever tried to make the fight, I mean, have they ever initiated contract negotiations with some of their big name rivals?

People are assuming it’s up to Canelo, but why? K2 never tried to make an effort to negotiate a fight with Ward, but it’s Andre that receives the widespread criticism. K2 never tried to initiate contract negotiations for a fight with Canelo, but somehow the Mexican receives the criticism. Yet K2 feel compelled to make an offer to Billy Joe Saunders...
