Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
This HAS to be THE WORST year in boxing history. Literally feels like nobody is fighting. And if they are it's a farce of a matchup. I know it's been a bad few years but this year really takes the cake. Seems like absolutely nothing is happening. Thank God for Ward-Kovalev. At least a couple guys in this sport have some balls on them. Can't get here soon enough. Christ.
Re: Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
Yea thank god for Ward Kovalev. I liked watching the rise of Anthony Joshua but I won't tolerate another Brezeale. Other than that....so many could of/should of scenarios.diddy wrote:This HAS to be THE WORST year in boxing history. Literally feels like nobody is fighting. being super competitive, especially at
heavy where literally nothing happened.
Re: Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
i agree, even though i enjoy PBC's slow painful & death, I hope it hastens somewhat so we can maybe get some fights in 2017.

...again the lower weights have sorta delivered...in the space of 2 weeks we had 4 hours at 115lbs that were interesting (only one of those was a mismatch), at 118 we has Yamanaka showing signs of improvement won't his war against Moreno, Frampton vs LSC was brilliant, Hasegawa vs Ruiz, Guzman vs Wake
...been great if you follow the lil guys

Agreed. Very boring year. Besides Kov & Ward, only other fight ongot hyped for was Crawford v Postol.

Thanks to Al (mainly), Oscar and Bob.
Re: Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
I don't think it's a bad year, and we've already had a thread on the subject like 3 weeks ago. But we are in a slump of meaningful fights this month or so. But our hopes for an entertaining remainder of the year rest on Kovalev - Ward, Lomanchenko - Walters, and the potential Wlad / Joshua / Parker match-ups that are dangling. I am not necessarily optimistic that they will all deliver, but maybe.

Yea I would say the worst year I have ever seen.
At least Kovalev vs Ward and Lomachenko vs Walters can send us out on a high note.
I am slightly hopefully for the future though as maybe some fighters leave PBC and maybe Oscar emerges with some good promotions, along with things going in with European promoters.

Typical you. You must be like 17 or something. You talk like a person who only knew boxing since 2010.Ricky_ wrote:i agree, even though i enjoy PBC's slow painful & death, I hope it hastens somewhat so we can maybe get some fights in 2017.
There were some HORRIBLE years/stretches in mid/late 2000s ... way before Haymon was a factor.
So you believe the guys who made boxing horrible, will fix it?

Re: Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
I've been following boxing for my whole life. I'm 37 so that's a good 25 years. There hasn't been a year with less good fights than this one. I don't even need to look it up.

Not even close. Luckily the UFC continues to put together great cards. 205 might be better on paper than the entire year in boxing.

That was right above the LOLs.
What cracked me up was an adult believing the people who made and benefit from the problem,
will fix it. For no real reason either.

However, isn't my terror of a TR/GBP boxing world warranted?
Why are people acting like removing the PBC will make things better?
DLH hates Arum. Arum only loves himself.
Remove Haymon, and we get the same shit again.
Come on, Bob and GBP didn't sit fighters in their prime all time?
Bob and GBP didn't make bullshit matches all the time?
I'm not for the removal of any specific boxing agency,
the whole thing is completely fuck3d,
anything short of that realization seems like an agenda to me.

Re: Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
Yes, it's very frustrating for boxing fans when the fights we want to see keep getting delayed, cancelled, or simply fail to happen because negotiations fail.
For example, I was looking forward to GGG-Jacobs, and Klitschko-Fury II, Klitschko-Browne or Klitschko-Joshua. None of those are likely to happen, at least not this year.
Parker-Joshua would have been good, or Joshua-Ortiz, but instead we'll likely have a Joshua-Price mismatch.
That being said, it looks like Kovalev-Ward and Lomachenko-Walters are going to happen next month, and those are great matchups. Lebedev-Gassiev and Povetkin-Stiverne are very good ones scheduled for December.

Oscar and Arum are far from perfect, but if they had as many good fighters in their stables, they would at least fight each other.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Cool ... what if I admit it too?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:The pbc is the bottom of the barrel. Rock bottom.

I just want fights, if al needs to fold to get his fighters fights then so be it. Being honest, I barely care anymore.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Cool ... what if I admit it too?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:The pbc is the bottom of the barrel. Rock bottom.

Re: Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
cross promotional matchups often make sense too. If 2 TR guys fight Bob is left with a loser whose stock plummets, so in-house matchmaking always has a downside (unless a guy is retiring). But on cross-promo... to the victor the spoils.boxing_rocks wrote:Oscar and Arum are far from perfect, but if they had as many good fighters in their stables, they would at least fight each other.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Cool ... what if I admit it too?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:The pbc is the bottom of the barrel. Wouldn't be suprised if all of those match ups and potential ones turned out to be great, especially Loma vs Walters.Lackeos wrote:I don't think it's a bad year, and we've already had a thread on the subject like 3 weeks ago. Another thought: Oscar and Arum need their fighters to fight to produce money. Haymon gets money from investors and loses it when his boxers fight. He is just not directly interested in making good fights.

Actually al makes money off of his fighters purses. The higher the purse the better his take.boxing_rocks wrote:Another thought: Oscar and Arum need their fighters to fight to produce money. Re: Sooooooooooo Borrrrrrrrrrrred
It's been a very good year from my point of view....
The Thurman-Porter, Crawford-Postal, Usyk-Glowacki, and Easter-Commey fights were all excellent... Coming up the Lomachenko-Walters and Kovalev-Ward events are fights you wait a lifetime to see... When have you seen matchups like that??? If fans can't get excited about those fights they're dead... Joshua and Golovkin could yet nail down fights with Parker, Klitschko, Jacobs, or Saunders because the year is not over.
But it's frustrating when the best fights go begging... Such as Crawford-Pacquiao... Mayweather-Thurman... Rigondeaux-Frampton... Russell-Santa Cruz... Golovkin-Alvarez... Wilder-Povetkin... Brook-Khan... Thurman-Bradley... Spence-Pacquiao... Lara-Andrade... Kovalev-Chickenson and so many others we could have enjoyed throughout the year... It's always been the best and most logical fights that never happen -- but never so many as this year.
