Jeff Horn vs WBO #8 Ali Funeka - December 10th

Post by Like a Boss »

Jeff Horn is preparing to face South African Ali Funeka on December 10 in a bout that could force a multi-million-dollar battle with all-time great Manny Pacquiao.

The Horn-Funeka fight will be staged in front of Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum, who on Sunday is staging Pacman’s assault on WBO welterweight champ Jessie Vargas, in Las Vegas.

Horn is being manoeuvred to the top of the boxing rankings in the IBF and the WBO with the aim of him becoming the top contender in both and in the box seat for a world title fight in 2017.

Horn is ranked the #2 in the IBF behind Errol Spence Jr and #4 by the WBO behind Pacquiao, another Arum fighter in Timothy Bradley and Spence. Funeka, his next opponent, is WBO #8.

Horn’s promoter, Auckland-based Dean Lonergan said he and co-promoter David Higgins spoke with Arum two weeks ago in Los Angeles about a Horn-Pacquiao fight.

“Bob is very aware of Jeff’s story and that he’s an unbeaten contender rising fast through the ranks,’’ Lonergan said.

“Bob has the luxury that he promotes Pacquiao, Vargas and Tim Bradley and it is easier to match Pacquiao against them than give the fight to an outsider from Australia”.

#2 in WBO, #60 on Boxrec seems about right to me looking at his record.
Can't anyone else see a bit of Shannan Taylor V Shane Mosely in this build up???

I would prefer to see him against a legit top 10 myself. Then against one of the big guns

If Arum wants Pac to fight Horn next........................Horn will be his next opponent.

Assuming they both win the fight currently in front of them.

Dreaming, I wouldn't use the same two fighters in the same sentence, levels apart

Horn is clearly motoring towards some very significant fights. But boxing politics will play a big part in determining which ones he actually lands.

It is getting increasing difficult to identify who the good guys are with the ridiculously high number of organisations each with their own multitude of titles.

The expression 'world champion' is now almost totally meaningless, and the rankings below each of them even more meaningless.

Horn should stop him. Funeka's recent win in Russia is one of the most surprising for me this year; it's not too often that the housefighter is the unfortunate one on the cards, and I certainly didn't expect to see it in Grozny.

When was the last time Pac faced someone with such a low US profile? I think Horn would really need to boost his name to land that bout, and domestic fights against people like Muellar and Funeka probably aren't going to do much of that.

He's clearly beyond the level he's fought at and I'm hoping he makes a significant step up next year. The top guys are light-years ahead of his opponents and it would be a giant leap to go from Funeka to any of the best 15 welterweights.

With such a nice ABC ranking they may just hold off on the tough competition though.

Arum was flat out selling Jessie Vargas as a legit opponent and the sole reason they fought him was to take his WBO World Title Pacman will thing old Bob losing his mind imagine telling Freddy Pacman v Horn He'd probably tell old Bob that Manny aint into cock fighting any more
Just a thought how the f.c does a 38 year old [Funeka] who got stopped in 5 round's last year by a fighter with a 9-7-3 record get anyone ready for Pacman
