Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Rematch please. Not because of the scoring but because that was a great showcase for boxing. Not so many punches landing but so much going on in that ring. Make more 50/50 fights and we might get more of that.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
You dont need to be made of particulry tough stuff to go the distance with Ward.lillywhite14 wrote:Kov didn't look too comfortable down the stretch. Wards body shots slowed him down.crusader wrote:Thought Kov edged it
Lol at Ward stopping him
I don't think anyone had Ward down to stop him emphatically, more of a wearing him down sort of effort.
I don't think Kov is made of iron in traditional Drago stereotype style.
Kov isnt drained Chad Dawson (who still went 10 btw)

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Kovolev won that fight, sick of referees lettin ward wrestle and hold and then ward complains? I wouldnt rank ward as p4p no.1 either
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
I guess we won't really know who won until Jeff Powell announces it after he's watched it in slow motion.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
The size of Eddie next to Paulie looks comical lol
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
One thing that struck me, particularly in the latter rounds.
Ward shoots a neat single shot that lands and Kovalev throws 3 or 4 and only lands one.
That kind of exchange happened a few times and you should really give it even.
Some people see the single sharp shot and note the couple Kovalev missed.
Some people appreciate the higher output and maybe score one or two that Sergey half landed or clipped gloves/shoulders.
I think these kind of exchanges effect how people perceive scoring in a close round

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Pauline didn't need to say that. - Smith was about to say punches landed were near identical but Wards punches landed % was much, much more accurate.mickey1975 wrote:On punch stats - "people can get dumber just by looking at those stats"!Boxerbeetle wrote:Paulie is spot on. Some of you guys could learn something from him here
I.e. kovalev was missing loads.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Perez was robbed no doubt; the main event could have gone either way. To call it a robbery shows what you don't know hahaha. Don't let the door hit you on your a rse on the way out

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
What was on SKY scorecards?
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
I don't think Paulie was swayed by Smith, he's just a shit commentator. Favours the fighter closest in style to himself at all times, doesn't take power into account because he had none and he's a patronising, arrogant bellend on top of it, anyone that has a different opinion must be missing something or simply wrong, like when he started banging on about how anyone scoring it to Kovalev must have been missing Ward's bodyshots. He's a prick and the sooner Sky fornicate him off the better.boxingknockout wrote:Sky were terrible tonight - so biased towards Ward, calling every shot he landed whilst largely ignoring Kovalev's punches. If I could be arsed, I would count the number of times Sky called Ward's shots compared to Kov and then compare to the punchstats. I reckon they were biased about 4-1 Ward, even though Kov on punchstats outscored Andre by 126-106 (I know punchstats are not that great.)
Smith was his usual growling fool self without any analysis of value and talking way too much. He really knows very little about boxing, just growls rubbish.
I usually like Paulie but I think he was swayed by Smith's nonsense.
I had Kovalev winning by 2 rounds, so not the worst decision ever, but one of the worst commentatories.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
I had Kovalev winning, just, but no one can really argue with the decision. Some rounds so difficult to score a clear winner... love to see it again, but this time with a decent referee and some neutral judges
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
The CS has turned into a shit show as I suspected it would do; regardless of result.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Kovalev needs to make his early strength tell next time. Stop just throwing one twos looking for the right hand and throw multiple shots and look to work Ward's body much more.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
He (Kovalev) noticeably fades the second half of the fight.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:Kovalev needs to make his early strength tell next time. Stop just throwing one twos looking for the right hand and throw multiple shots and look to work Ward's body much more.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
kovalev win for me too, but how would a random russian ever win in america v an american anyway
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Has he done that before? I put that down to Ward's body work here, but to be honest I haven't watched Kov alll that much.lefty wrote:He (Kovalev) noticeably fades the second half of the fight.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:Kovalev needs to make his early strength tell next time. Off topic but just how tall is Hearn? He's a big lad isn't he? 6'5" wouldn't surprise melefty wrote:The size of Eddie next to Paulie looks comical lol
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
Sky commentators influence each other. They develop a narrative early and don't deviate from it and only see that which confirms their expectations
Smith was terrible for it. The amount of time Kovalev immediately answered Ward back but it was ignored was ridiculous. Other time Ward would hit globes but smith would rave about his work.
Why were they quoting Eddie hearns card as well? He's never swung a punch in his life, never trained a fighter and ain't a journalist- he's there as a fan.

He's hardly a random Russian. He's an HBO fighter with American promoters & trainers. He's lived in America for about 10 years.closer wrote:kovalev win for me too, but how would a random russian ever win in america v an american anyway
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
How can you not see how ward could win the fight by 3 rounds when there were 4 rounds which could have easily gone either way? Unless you are convinced there's no way that ward won any of those rounds.Taansend wrote:Mate, can you post your scorecard?hitman_hatton1 wrote:i had ward by 3 pts.
thought he took over down the stretch.
ward deserved that.
suck it up kids.
I can see Ward by 1 round - at the most - but THREE rounds!!!
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward
He seemed to fade a fair bit in the second half of the Chilemba fight. He throws a lot of heavy leather though so I'm guessing that factors into itTheDarkDestroyer wrote:Has he done that before? I can't face that place at the moment. There's so many idiots.lefty wrote:The CS has turned into a poo show as I suspected it would do; regardless of result.
