Tony Bellew is digging David Haye out for reading/being featured/looking at The Sun newspaper and it's a pretty common theme. The majority of Scouse boxers dig people out, don't do Sun interviews etc. etc.

If you are going to make a stand - all well and good. But Sky is a Murdoch machine as much as the Sun and they don't have a problem fighting on that channel and being paid as pundits.

The Sun, Sky and Murdoch are one and the same so why the difference?
The boycott is of the Sun, it is really that simple.
Aye, if you were to incorporate all of Murdoch's empire you'd have to take Bellew to task for calling Haye Sideshow Bob, The Simpsons was on Fox afterall.

I expect The Sun has very different staff and governance structures now than they did 27 years ago.

How long is this ridiculous grudge going to be maintained ?

In virtually any other circumstance you can imagine relating to what was at the end of the day only hurtful words, no matter how disgusting the sentiment, the prevailing wisdom would be to move on and let bygones be bygones. Your average scouser of that generation and every one since however has self pity and a victim mentality hardwired into their emotional makeup.
Probably for years to come. I don't expect you or anyone else to join the boycott and I don't want to be told that not forgiving that paper for its actions is ridiculous and to let bygones be bygones. IMO it's a poisonous institution and even if every member of staff is new since 1989 then they have knowingly joined the same awful paper. It's taken almost 3 decades for the truth to prevail and so many people still don't believe or know what the truth is, the misconceptions were peddled by the Sun and the hurt still exists all these years later. So good on a Merseyside for having solidarity and stamina over this boycott. If other people mock and ridicule that's their prerogative, the families and friends have endured much worse than a few sly pity city digs. If other people had the grit and determination of the leading Hillsborough justice campaigners then I would bet there would be more injustices uncovered in this country. The affable, let bygones be bygones attitude has aloud so many bad things happen in the U.K.

Mick, Bradford and Heysel are separate tragedies. I really can't see any reason why they're brought into the discussion. Would you expect the J96 campaigners to set up campaigns for none related tragedies? The people who've campaigned for Justice and truth about Hillsborough are separate. The Scouse/Merseyside/LFC fan boycott of the Sun is a good thing. The Sun helped change the countries opinion of what really happened at Hillsborough which must have been horrendous for the families and friends of victims. To not forgive is totally understandable especially as the Sun has never really changed its ways and done enough/anything to make up for their actions. To call the same people hypocrites for not boycotting all Murdoch products is just argumentative, the boycott is of the Sun, nothing else.

I also boycott the Sun but wouldn't expect anyone else who isn't involved with LFC or Merseyside to join the boycott. I don't read any papers and whenever anyone quotes the Sun/Mail I tend to glaze over, anyone forming an opinion based on crap they print loses a bit of credibility with me.

Haye is on a wind up, bit crass as he knows what he's doing but he's only interested in selling the fight. Bellew comes across as a bellend, I'm sure he's a great guy but is proper cringeworthy when he talks, incessantly about anything. He shouldn't bite to Haye but he's a drama queen so will carry on as ever.

It was 5 years ago when Haye held up the paper and it was to point out the headline of him knocking out Chisora. Bellew is clutching at straws, he's an idiot.

If this is correct, then it is is Boomer who is dispicable for trying to exploit this in order to get publicity for himself.

I did think it was strange that Haye would take a paper a good few years old to training camp.... It's Boomer at it again, these bin dippers have no boundaries. It's like when he jumped out of the ring at him and could have thrown more punches than Michael Shields but waited to be held back.... Typical.

The Liverpool fans caused it. Half of them will readily admit it. Ok, it could have been handled better, but if they could've behaved, it wouldn't have happened.

Cheers, glad someone finally posted it

Assuming like others have suggested its a pic from years ago (as you'd expect as surely even Haye doesn't carry newspaper articles of himself around years later - I mean he'd at least put it in a nice scrap book or something!!), I think this episode actually puts Bellew in the bad light!! Digging up stuff from years ago (again if that's what it is assuming Haye didn't repost it), to try and have a dig is pretty pathetic.

Like someone above has just said, Liverpool fans/Merseyside boycotting the Sun I've no issue with that and its pretty commendable really, but to start a witch hunt on everyone else is a bit unnecessary. Personally don't buy it they've stitched up my club enough, but mainly for the fact if I want to read news I'd buy a decent paper that covers it and if I want to see a bird with her tits out I've got the internet :yay:

The boycott and the ongoing campaign for justice was shining a light on the biggest conspiracy in British legal history carried out by the very authorities that are state funded and there to serve and protect the public.
It can happen to any one, they just picked on the wrong people this time. Petty points scoring might make some feel good but you should be pleased the families of the 96 had the strength of character to see it through as it's to everyone's advantage that this corruption has been properly exposed so it can hopefully never happen again.

And who's the 'right people' to pick on?

Who sits back and takes it? (Except for people who voted for Brexit?)

The miners?
The Scots when they got the Poll Tax before everyone else?

People fighting for what's right isn't just a scouse trait.

did I say anyone else was 'wrong'?

In the case of Hillsborough the establishment never thought for one second that what has come to pass would. The results of the campaign are there for all to see and wider society benefits yet people still snipe.
The campaign centred around a disaster that affected people from right across the UK and was fought by the families of those people and more, not just in the UK either.

You said - that the establishment picked on the 'wrong' people this time, meaning, they are used to picking on non-scousers and getting away with it.

If you know history - workers up and down the land have been fighting for rights since the industrial revolution, when Liverpool was knee deep a tory city - especially in the mining communities - read up about what people in those communities had to endure off the state in winning hard won workers rights. Hillsborough was a great victory, but it wasn't a first amongst the working classes against the state.

Do you not think it is was Manchester - people wouldn't have fought for that long, it might surprise you to say, I bet they would have done.

A minority snipes. Let's put it into its rightful context.

This is true, so it isn't about picking on 'the wrong people' if these people were from anywhere else, they would have fought it tooth and nail. :TU:

The resolve of people wronged by the establishment doesn't surprise me, it never has no matter where they come from. Yet the HJC still gets slagged and were abused from day 1 and it continues to this day despite the evidence and findings. This thread is proof of that.

The majority of people on this thread have stated that the families of Hillsborough got their deserved victory, you might have proof somewhere else that most people are against that ruling, but most people on this thread agree with you.

not sure who exactly, on this thread, has 'slagged and abused' the HJC?

if anyone is getting 'slagged and abused' its the bandwagon-jumpers and stirrers, and the gratuitous display of 'wounded scouseness' of Bellew, showing a Newspaper headline from 4 years ago in an attempt to imply Haye is 'insulting us scousers', in a gesture which sums up some of the criticisms on here of 'typical scouse whinging'

Scousers love victimhood.

I remember when that guy Ken Bigley got his head chopped off by ISIS and “the whole city was in mourning”…. How daft. Boris Johnson then got slated for calling them out on it (i.e. just saying what everyone outside Liverpool was thinking).

The Sun’s reporting on Hillsborough was clearly awful, but holding a city-wide grudge against a newspaper after all these years……

I don't agree with Bellews use of the boycott in this instance. It won't garner him as much support as he possibly thinks it will.

Wasn't he killed more than a decade before ISIS even came into existence?
