Briggs vs Oquendo - Purse Bid Received Only $400k - 2nd bid called for

Post by Like a Boss »

Briggs-Oquendo WBA Purse Bid Update

The purse bid for the fight between Briggs and Oquendo for the WBA title was held today. However, the requirements established in the WBA regulations were not met and it was not valid.

At the WBA headquarters, only Henry Rivalta, from The Heavyweight Factory, was present on behalf of Briggs. Rivalta presented an offer of $400,000. However, according to the Rules of the World Boxing Association, in Appendix E, the minimum amount to participate in a heavyweight category bid is one million dollars.

Therefore, Aurelio Fiengo, WBA Directory Member and director of the purse bid, adhering to the rules of the body, declared the process invalid and the Championships Committee of the organization called for a second purse bid for February 23rd, 2017. It will be held at the offices of the WBA, located in Panama City, Panama. Thus, the parties involved in the process were notified.

Exactly. Who the hell are these two jokers to warrant a million purse?

Foiled again! Briggs just can't seem to find a place to channel his energy.

Methinks this fight will never happen.
I'm actually starting to feel a bit sorry for Shannon.

They're expecting a million dollar purse for a fight between a 45 year old who hasn't won a significant fight since 2006, and a 43 year old who hasn't won a significant fight since 2001?

Talk about delusional.

This is an ESPN main event at best. Anything over a hundred grand bid is unreal.
This fight may turn out to be entertaining but it's not even close to a million dollar purse

I wouldn't even bother watching it on free TV. Briggs is an embarrassment and a danger to himself, and I have no desire to watch two guys with a combined age of 88 plod around the ring and throw a dozen punches per round.

If it's on free tv I'll probably watch it.
I night record it first and it sit there for a while but I'd watch it out of morbid curiosity

The actions tell the story, no explanation needed.

Embarrassing from the WBA.

To have all these belts is bad enough!
These organisations take the piss more than most promoters/fighters.

The funniest part to me is bothering to do it over. Like someone will shrewdly bid 600k more to get what they already bid less or nothing on.
