Staying with current Japanese fighters Japan-
Keita Obara took on Kazuyoshi Kumano (then 23-9) - and lost. Incidentally Obara won the OPBF title after Min Wook Kim vacated it, Kim had also lost on his debut to to the then 10-3 (6) Taek-Min Kim.

Ryota Murata debuted against Akio Shibata (then 21-7-1, 9) - then then unified Japanese and Oriental champion

Ken Shiro debuted against Heri Amol (then 36-17-4, 15), Kosei Tanaka debuted against the then world ranked Oscar Raknafa (then 12-4, 5) and the 17 year old Takuma Inoue debuted against Tatsuya Fukuhara (then 12-3-3, 3) - incidentally Fukuhara is now fighting for a WBO interim world title!

Also how about-
Arturo Mayan, who challenged the then WBO Minimumweight world champion Alex Sanchez (then 12-0, 9). Mayan's 90 second career is the shortest of any world title challenger!

Rafael Lovera of Paraguay - fought Luis Estaba WBC light flyweight title. Was kayoed in 4 and never fought again...

I thought Michael Carbajal had a tough pro debut against future world champ Will Grigsby. Grigsby was 1-0 at the time Carbajal boxed him. Many people wrote off Carbajal in that fight because he did not win impressively. I was actually very impressed with both boxers and it did not surprise that both went on and became world champions.
