Tete vs Villanueva

Post by wiley101 »

Is this fight still going ahead Saturday? No mention in recent weeks but too big a fight to have been cancelled without an announcement?

Been looking forward to this one and really poor form if they've just snuck this off the card to save money! Still on boxrec schedule but fw and allegedly Twitter both ignoring the question!

Still on the schedule but can't see anything about him at workouts today and he's not on new poster so it's no doubt off. If it is off that's a major let down.

Confirmed as no longer on the card, really disappointing that a fight like that can just disappear along with mark thompson, the Cartwright rematch and metcalf's opponent this week, plus Howe v Dubois

Still a great fight in Williams v Smith and looking forward to Kelly v Godding so hope that isn't next to be pulled. Not as 'stacked' now though

Yep I agree, told he's on another bill, think Tete may have had a knock. Mark Thompson withdrew from the Metcalf fight as did Justin Menzie for Mason Cartwright.

Not sure why David Howe pulled out, seemingly he did just a day after the announcement.

Confirmed where? Not saying it's not been pulled, just not seen it mentioned apart from one randomer on Twitter. Dubois and Cartwright's opponents' changed a couple weeks back.

Know the others weren't this week, was more that those changing along with tete was a disappointment

Fairly common place for under card fights to change though, regardless of promoter. Tete one is somewhat disappointing, but Cartwright and Dubois aren't exactly the features.

Same happened with Okolie, his opponent Henshaw got cleaned out by Jack Massey, meant a late change of opponent. Unsure on why Howe pulled out.

i would imagine from a business wise its tough to promote tete and probably lose money on his fights. okay for the boxing purists but most people who tune in on tv and live are just casual fans and most of them will suppor a local/home town fighter. That's why you haven't seen rigondeaux back over here fighting Galahad, quigg, frampton etc.

Makes you wonder how much talent the fans have missed out on over the years....

I'm friends with Paul Butler and I was there that night that Tete put him into the stratosphere.. The man is an animal.

I had high hopes for Butler, I know he won a world title but I expected him to beat Tete but he was giving a boxing lesson finished off by a superb KO

USA is the place to go if you want to crack it, maybe Tete should follow Commey, Olusegun etc and try make a name for himself Stateside, they'll love him over there and he'll get exposure

Was away at weekend so catching up on all the fights. Only watched the first 10 rounds.

Just watched this one and noticed it was for the WBO interim bantamweight title. And that the full champion lost his title in the scales so Tete will probably be upgraded.

That being said I didn't think this is a good way to become a two weight world champion. The problem with this fight is Villanueva didn't want to engage at all so it didn't make for the best of fights.

I think Tete is highly skilled. His one sided domination of Butler is one of the best performances from an international fighter I have seen.

He NEEDS to be in with one of the top guys in the division NOW. Otherwise he is wasting his peak.

My personal choice would be WBA CHamp Zhakiyanov who is trained by Hatton and coming off an excellent win. He will bring it non stop to Tete and I think it would be a good fight.

I would also like to see Tete the no 1 at the weight Shinsuke Yamanaka. I think Tete would give him fits.
