Floyd Mayweather Offers to Train Anthony Joshua!

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Anthony Joshua wants to be a part of Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor" (Source: Sky Sports)

"Anthony Joshua wants to be a part of Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor"

For his part, Mayweather thinks he could make Joshua an even more accomplished fighter.

Joshua is fresh from his 11th-round stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko in an enthralling fight at Wembley Stadium last month.

But Mayweather says a little 'tweak' would make Joshua even better.

"I've got the utmost respect but you know we've got to bring him over to the Mayweather boxing club," said the American.

"We're going to tighten that defence up real, real sharp. Real, real slick.

"We're not trying to move the trainers out the way, but there's certain things we've got to tweak.

"His last fight it went what, eight or nine? Eleven? Well, you know, it could have went three."

A grinning Joshua added: "I like that."

Anthony Joshua isn’t going to appear on the undercard of the Mayweather-McGregor main event if he has to face Wladimir Klitschko again. However, Mayweather’s kind offer to help improve AJ’s defence did intrigue me, since I feel that this is one of Joshua's weaknesses.

Thoughts?

How would Joshua have stopped Wlad in three with a slicker defence? That doesn't make sense.

This Floyd connection is interesting, and it's clearly huge from a promotional standpoint. but Joshua won't need to improve too much from this point. He's going to beat everyone.

Translation: my career is done and my image sucks and PBC and Tmt are two sinking ships. AJ is the real deal and I need to parasite off AJ like a leech.

Hopefully Hearn and Joshua are wise enough to stay away from the corrupt fraudweather.

Floyd sees unbelievable Heavyweight talent and MASSIVE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ when he looks at Joshua... Floyd's money mouth is watering.. He's trying to lure Joshua with empty promises of a masterful defense and flawless execution, leading to a 3-round demolition of an ATG who nobody else came close to stopping in the previous 11 years. AJ might have finished a less experienced and resolute Wladimir in the 5th. It was good thing he didn't.

Let me tell you...Joshua needed every one of those 11 rounds. You won't become a master boxer without rounds, so don't be deluded.

Floyd doesn't want to displace Joshua's current trainers...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... Floyd just wants to "tweak" a few things for free -- and lavish his time on AJ because he's such a generous soul without ulterior financial motives.. He just loves Joshua, that's all.. "I’m just gonna help a brother here – nothing more to it than that." He knows AJ could leave his team and join TMT any time he so desires. Floyd has a craven heart and a lust for money that doesn’t quit.

The 2nd thing is, who wants all their fights to go 2 or 3 rounds??? It a cliché, but true that you can’t knock everybody out.. There will be tough 12-round matches in Joshua’s future... fights with Luis Ortiz or other super talented Heavyweights – maybe 5, 6, or 7 years from now against a kid we haven’t heard from yet – who will drain every ounce of AJ’s energy over 12 rounds. Josh will need to call on all his experience and rounds he accumulates between now and then just to scrape out a win. Floyd is not going to polish Joshua into an invincible KO machine.

Joshua has to remember that Boxing is not rocket science. There are no hidden secrets that only holy “masters” have privilege to. How many fights in a row has Floyd Mayweather been forced to go the distance??? What caliber fighter did Floyd stop??? What gives Floyd the right to say, with his secret sauce you would have stopped Wlad in 3 rounds??? Floyd has vast knowledge. Floyd may be able to offer tips that could help your game. Just remember you’re a dyed-in-the-wool Brit. Don’t forget your roots.

Floyds a damned fraud who had his entire career corrupted and protected. Pay no attention to that lil SOB who would be nothing without Al Haymons corruption fixing and manipulating. He's just trying to parasite off Joshua. Hopefully AJ is smart enough to stay away from POS weather.

Very causal conversation had by Floyd. You can see the full youtube clip. Regardless, it would be a dream to be trained by a Mayweather, if only for a short time, not sure who would turn down going there for say a month, theres always something to learn both in boxing....and life.

I guess it gets gets complicated in terms of loyalty, money, under what circumstances would he be training him, for a fight only or just for training, is it a collaborative approach like we recently saw with Virgil Hunter and Danny Jacobs, who didnt appear in the ring. Basically, what do the Mayweather want? Just a friendly few thousand or do they want a share of his next big money fight.

Something worth considering though and AJ should at least discuss with his people.

Saying all that though, and after a speal about learning more in boxing..how much can AJ actually improve with his current body type? But thats something the Mayweathers could work out of course, my lack of training knowledge shrouds my view.

With slicker defence you will ko wlad inside 3

Floyd logic

Floyd will teach josh something about defence and how to be a boring boxer. Josh is gonne teach floyd about powerful hooks and how to be an exciting fan friendly boxer.

There's always something to learn. You're not limited in any way if you're big, tall, rangy, and muscular.. Your options are greatly enhanced.. How is somebody like Joe Frazier going to deal with a big, tall, powerful Heavyweight like George Foreman??? He can't jab him well from the outside with his height and reach deficit.. He can't go inside with his size and strength deficit -- because he'll get murdered.. He's screwed!!!

Same with Floyd Patterson versus Sonny Liston.. With his reach and strength deficits he had as much chance as Richard Deacon with Marilyn Monroe. Most of the 1950's Heavyweights weren't physically much bigger than Patterson... Liston is the only one who stood out ... a guy who everyone feared.

However a lot of Heavyweights today match or nearly match Joshua's size and strength.. He's already fought several guys taller.. but he had the skill on them.. So whatever he can learn from whoever he needs to learn.. Many times trainers tell you things that are total BS bullcrap.. So you need to be able to hold your own in a conversation and question the reasoning and the science behind what they're telling you in a non-challenging way.. But with a guy like Mayweather, he's more likely to be able to give you fresh insights that can really help you.. Somebody like Lennox Lewis??? Probably not.. The stuff he was telling Deontay Wilder in that parking lot wasn't anything Wilder hasn't heard before.. He was being very respectful and polite.

He just can't stay out of the limelight.
I do think fighters benefit from different trainers.
Except Floyd, he ignored his dad for years between rounds.

Yea I did say that, theres always more to learn, in my original quote. I'm sure Mayweather could teach him plenty. It would be a dream to train with the Mayweather IMO. Just Joshua could learn thing, not sure how much he could apply effectively with his current physique. Turning people with footwork, like a James Toney (one of my favourites) and like Lomachenko is doing, how could Joshua do that. Also, the shouder roll, also a Toney and Mayweather favourite, find it difficult to see Joshua doing that because he is so top heavy. But....I'm sure there are plenty of other things. My whole point was that it would be great to be trained by the Mayweathers but there are complicating factors, plus AJs body could be a issue IMO.

Lazboy, you just aren't making any sense at all... Top Heavy??? Look how powerful AJ's legs are.. He's not top heavy.. Can't do the shoulder roll???? Look how easily and fluidly Joshua ducked under Klitschko's punches, particularly his left hooks which slammed into that immobile oaf, Kubrat Pulev.. The slowpoke Pulev can't get away from a punch to save his life.. Toney was nothing but a fat blob of blubber, so whenever he ducked under a punch as a Heavyweight he was crunching some of his fat.. I don't think you can get your brain around the fact that Joshua is just as fluid and as fast as anyone out there.. Joshua won the Super Stars Competition and blew everyone else away in the sprints... He's got very fast feet so turning people or spinning out is not a problem for him.. Joe Frazier and Ken Norton did miserably in the Super Stars Competition and got last place.. Both very uncoordinated and unadaptable to various sports and events where you need all-round flexibility and athletic skills. No wonder they got punched out a few times.

I do agree he was ducking well against the left hooks, however rarely they came. They did though came from a fair distance, which is far easier to see then a short hook. As for your comments about Joshua being fluid. Wlad Klitschko, a fighter who has been named robotic and so and so has looked far more fluid with his movement and jab around the ring in his career than Joshua has looked so far. I appreciate Joshua has fast explosive hands, his body and feet are yet to catch up them.

From what I’ve read, the majority of the misfortune he has suffered throughout his career has been self-inflicted.

All fighters are capable of learning new things from a variety of top-notch trainers. It’s up to them to decide whether any new techniques are beneficial to them or not and worth implementing.

Against the very first world-class opponent that Anthony Joshua faced, there were brief moments against Klitschko where he appeared off-balance, his control of range could have been better and a few times he was also defensively irresponsible.

I’m not criticising AJ about the technical flaws in his style, since he is (after all) a heavyweight and a relative novice, but by his own admission he needs to drop weight and address certain weaknesses, with such modesty being very commendable and a very sensible approach to take.

For sure, Team Mayweather may be able to show AJ a few tricks here-and-there… and sometimes even tiny changes can provide huge improvements.

Big AJ reeks of money and Floyd got a sniff and fancies some of it. He's no credentials as a trainer as yet and I can't see him going in to that side of things. AJ would benefit from spending some time around certain gyms across the US. I doubt he'd be able to understand Roger or old Floyd barking crack head noises at him though! He'd need a fuckin interpreter!

Dude joined TMT and then the Mayweather/50 split happened. His whole career went spiraling down because he joined TMT in the first place.

So Yuriorkis Gamboa signed-up with TMT sometime during July 2012. Curtis Jackson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. dissolved their partnership during December 2012, with 50 Cent’s company being known as SMS Promotions (Money May was no longer involved at this point).

During November 2015, Yuriorkis Gamboa filed a lawsuit to be released from his contract with SMS Promotions, claiming that they did not fulfil their obligations of coordinating three fights per year, as per their written agreement.

SMS Promotions successfully proved in court that they had actually secured four fights for the Cuban and that he refused a fifth contest. Gamboa had also changed management teams and had not informed them.

The judge ruled Gamboa’s claims against SMS Promotions as utter bóllocks!

Coincidentally, your claim about Floyd Mayweather Jr. ruining Yuriorkis Gamboa’s is also utter fúckíng bóllocks!

Okay, let’s keep things simple for you.

An experienced fighter agreed to sign-up with an inexperienced promotional company, based on the Cuban’s written stipulations, where these contractual obligations were irrefutably proven to have been ultimately fulfilled (as per the court’s ruling).

So I don’t see any justification for your allegation.

Mayweather definitely can't train Joshua to KO Wlad in 3. Mayweather almost never wins any fight by KO. Mayweather's only KO in his last 10 fights was hitting Ortiz while timeout was called. Mayweather might be able to improve some of Joshua's mechanics, but there's also a risk that Mayweather could make Joshua unnecessarily super cautious and defensive.
