Question about moving up in weight
Question about moving up in weight
For as long as I have been a boxing fan I hear about boxers not being able to make a certain weight any longer because they have grown out of their weight class. For example did Adrien Broner really grow out of 135? Can he go back to 135 since he hasn't had much success at 140 and 147? In a span of 4 years Mikey Garcia fought from 126-140. I see a lot of boxers stay in their weight classes throughout their whole career especially asian boxers and more specifically thai boxers. Is growing out of your weight class a myth?
Re: Question about moving up in weight
Humans are different.
But 2 things are for sure.
BURGER KING wont make anybody ripped
And
TRAINING wont make you fat
So if somebody chooses burgers over training than he will have a struggle staying in his weight class, but but if somebody trains hard throughout the whole year he would surely stay in his weight class.
Age also a factor. But if you are 26, fully grown and ripped, not to much drained, than the division your are in should be the right one. $$$$€€€ always a reason to go up or down in weight...

Re: Question about moving up in weight
Guys like Broner are draining themselves to the max to compete at 130 and 135 at the beginning of their careers. As they start to get older they can't handle dropping off that kinda weight anymore.
They could probably hold off longer if they wanted to, but a lot of the time the strain it puts on your body, and overall health probably isn't worth it.

No ... it's a fact ... (with the odd exception here and there) ...halfamill wrote:Is growing out of your weight class a myth?

Of course it's not, does anyone really think Floyd could make 130 anymore?
