If McGregor wins the whole world will go wild in anticipation of his next fight ...

... IN THE RING ...

... if he goes back to MMA, no one will care ...

... (ironic, ain't it) ...

Since Floyd is only a 5-1 favorite, it won't be anywhere as big an upset as Douglas over Tyson, Clay over Liston, Backus over Napoles, Randall over Chavez ....

Just another underdog who beats the odds.

If Conor wins it would be more historic than Rocky Balboa beating Apollo Creed. Rocky did have some pro-boxing bouts on his record after all.

Let's be honest here: This fight dominates everything including this board in terms of public interest (not competitiveness or relevance). Everyone loves a good freak show and a Rocky story. Floyd has dominated everyone in the past 2 decades and he will most likely vanquish Conor. But still most of us are fascinated by this carnival show. Entertainment > sports!

Rocky was 44 & 20 when he fought Creed the first time (if memory serves) ... not that it's relevant ...

The winner should fight Sylvester Stalone for the true H.Y.P.E title. It puts boxing in a negative light, it make boxing fans
look stupid.

How's that? Boxing fans are the only ones saying "This is a complete joke of a fight, this is a complete mismatch"...Boxing fans are the only ones that DON'T look stupid when it comes to this fight.

The General public comes off looking like absolute morons who can't think for themselves, and can be sold absolutely anything with the right amount of hype.

gilgamesh wrote:Since this is about Historic. Let me drop a little Boxing history on the folks that have been bitching and moaning since this fight was made about Floyd fighting a guy that's making his debut, and what BS that is etc.

Everybody...well most of us know who Archie Moore is right? The All record holder for knockouts. Legendary Light Heavyweight Champion, who also challenged Marciano for the Heavyweight Title. Highly respected, and highly thought of fighter.

His final fight was against a Professional Wrestler...Mike DiBiase (father of "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase). Who was making his pro debut, and never fought another Boxing match afterward.

Archie stopped him in the 3rd.

The Old Mongoose was at least 50 and had a bit of a belly. He makes Floyd look like a spring chicken and Floyd is in incredible shape.

This would be a cocky white dude beating FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR in the USA 2017.

Floyd would immediately be given credit as one of the unquestioned all-time greats,
just to make the national holiday and monument for McGregor more significant.

This will occur even if the fight looks EXACTLY like Fury/Wlad, and is a million times worse than Floyd/Manny.

I thought this fight was like a WWE event. Just entertainment. A joking what-if that we actually get to see.

Instead, boxing fans are finally protecting the sanctity of the sport?
Seriously, how many of you here work for GBP/TR?

The outrage against this fight is so phony and more evidence of bias.
White put DLH on blast, if this were Canelo/McGregor, the whole perception would be totally different.

Sad to see the strings of bias getting pulled like this.
IMO, if you paid to watch Canelo/Khan, you are just as stupid.
Why wasn't ESPN anchors talking about the money value of that fight?
Why weren't e boxing fans talking about the money value of that fight?

I didn't pay for Canelo/Khan either. I don't get sold bullsh*t. If others do that's their problem.

I feel zero sympathy for the people that spend their money tonight, and then feel ripped off afterward. If you buy something that there are countless articles out there circulating telling you it's a farce, it's a joke...it's all this, and you STILL buy it. You deserve to be ripped off.

Paying 100 bucks on this expecting it to be a competitive fight is naive to say the least.
Paying 100 bucks on a spectacle because you love freak entertainment is simply a matter of taste.
I'll watch the fight because it's free in Germany (via DAZN) and because I take WWE over real sports any given day. :D

It would be the biggest upset in the history of American sports.

The only thing I could think of that could top it would be Bad Intentions commenting on something without making it racial. Guy makes Tunney seem well adjusted.

Hey, what about those amateur college kids beating the mighty Russian "pros" in the ice hockey semi finals of the 1980 Olympics?

Huge, huge sports upset.

"Do you believe in miracles?" Al Michaels intoned.

Maybe, but not tonight.

That might currently be the answer. This would be more akin to the national soccer team beating the Russians in Hockey.
