I would have liked to see Canelo stand and trade more, when he had his moments his work was often the more effective. He backed away too much.

Canelo couldn't stand and trade for too long because he doesn't have the stamina and while he was absorbing the single shots if he had taken 2 or 3 one after another I think he would have wilted.

He made easy work of spinning away from the right hand and landed the cleaner shots. But there was only one winner. I had it 7-4-1 to Golovkin but I always have fights closer than everyone else.

GGG was a little too predictable, he also needed to put even more pressure on Canelo than he did, and take a few more risks.

Clearly canelo felt the effects of those shots from GGG - he couldn't stand there and trade, and his own shots had pretty much no effect on GGG at all, even the biggest shots didn't even make GGG blink. Clearly there was a big gulf in punch power.

I think Golovkin seemed content to just outbox him, which was a mistake, in the rematch I'd expect him to come on a lot stronger.

Don't see how this could have been scored for Canelo, he had a few good rounds but GGG was the boss in there.

All fair comment.

Golovkin has slowed down that's clear. Canelo showed better counter-punching than I expected but he was too defensive...and simply stopped fighting for long periods...which are the same tactics Jacobs employed.

There were some signs I thought of GGG being a little slow pulling the trigger too.

Close fight i had it a draw. Didn't think GGG looked good at all 10/10 for his chin though.

Finally got to watch this fight last night.

I scored it a draw.

However 11 of the 12 rounds could have gone either way, in my humble opinion. I think the only round I had for certain was GGG in the 8th or around there.

So if GGG had won 120-108 I couldn't really complain. Same with Canelo 119-109.

It was just one of those close fights.

If I watched it WITHOUT scoring I think I'd lean towards GGG but that's not how it works.

So if Canelo would have won this UD with scorecards of around the 119-109 mark you wouldn't have complained.....

Ggg isn't what he was. Against Macklin and Rosado etc he looked like the type of fighter that could counter/slip if he wanted too. I don't think those reflexes are there anymore and he's now something of a slugger when competing at the level Canelo is at. Canelo was countering him beautifully.

That's the thing when you score round by round. You may have one feeling from watching the fight while your scorecards say something completely different.

Any wide score I would have thought odd as was a close fight but theoretically I can't complain about a wide score as I felt 11 of the rounds could have gone either way.

Clear win for Golovkin. Canelo did well to stick in there, but Golovkin was in total control

Alvarez out boxed Golovkin for most of the fight.

He made Golovkin miss that many times it was unreal. That's what boxing is all about.

Anyone can get in there and just walk forward. Alvarez used ring generalship to win the bout.

This is one of the most bizarre things I have ever read, it has no foot in reality. "Ring generalship"???? Canelo was putting everything he could into just staying in the fight, he was bullied around all night.

It was a terrific fight. I was a little disappointed that Alverez back pedalled as much as he did, but he probably had no choice. If he'd stood & traded more I'm pretty sure he would have got stopped by GGG. BUT that was probably the difference between this fight being a classic.

I had GGG winning by either 8 - 3- 1 or 7 - 4- 1 if memory serves. Either way I had GGG a fairly solid winner in a tough fight.

It must have been tough on Alverez after a very tough fight (and fair play to him for taking on GGG, he deserves huge credit for this) and then having the crowd voice their displeasure with the result, but he didn't stand and fight with GGG in the manner he would like everyone to believe. He got chased around that ring for most of the fight and outworked.

117-112 GGG (R1 drawn)

Let's face it, if there had been 2x drawn cards, or Adelaide had 115-113 we could accept it.
Boxing is subjective and the crowd does influence judges - however much it shouldn't.

The fight was great, the result was iffy, but just about ok.
It's the @#$%ing 118 that stinks and ruined it. :brick:  :witzend:  :brick:

Funny because I thought my scorecard was going to say GGG won. I was a little surprised when it came out 116-116.

I scored four rounds a draw which is much too much though.

The fight was close. 1,2,3,10,11,12 are clear Canelo rounds for me and I don't see how anyone can say they can't see where I'm coming from unless they are short sighted, easily swayed by commentators/public opinion, GGG fanboys, Canelo haters or just poor scorers. I happened to give one of the other rounds to Canelo too but I can see GGG getting a share of that round.

Thought Canelo would win beforehand and happy to admit I was wrong. Thought ggg won that 116-112. Although I think cannel still fought well, he just knew he didn't't have the stamina to have more bursts of pressure. He ended well so that will give him confidence in a re-match that his stamina might hold out. I don't know how anyone can hurt ggg tho, that chine is ridiculous and with the high work rate, it's gonna take a very fit man to outwork ggg.
