Stevenson turned 40

Post by boxing_rocks »

The guy has been a champion for 4 years and managed not to fight Kovalev, Beterbiev, Alvarez, Gvozdyk, Chilemba ... Now he is 40, and his time is almost up. Looks like he may be sacrificed to Jack if Badou can handle him.

He doesn't believe in himself. He could have defeated some top contenders. He has the power to stop fighters. He could have at least done something to make himself noteworthy at light heavyweight..

I think he has to fight Alvarez next. Jack is in line (in a year or two).

If he fought like he did in Fonfara 2, he has a chance against all of them. That fight surprised me. And it made me think, why, oh why does he keep doing this?
The guy is an awkward southpaw with decent power. He has a punchers chance against anyone and fights no one :maybe:
And now he is 40....

Smart way of managing his career I must say. He wouldn't have had the title reign he's had if he'd defended against legitimate contenders at any point during this run.

Several Light Heavyweights could beat him now, and those same Light Heavyweights could've beaten him at any point during this reign. That's why he hasn't fought any of them.

Kovalev ducked Stevenson, even though Adonis had committed to defending his title against the Russian. Sergey walked away from that bout!

GYM decided to keep Beterbiev and Stevenson apart, because they wanted Artur to capture the IBF strap before engaging in a title unification bout against Adonis.

Stevenson is facing Alvarez in December.

Chilemba is a Main Events fighter... And that promoter only works with HBO, but Stevenson (the A-side) is a Showtime fighter. So Kathy decided to use Chilemba as an opponent for Krusher instead. It's not the first time Duva has refused to engage in purse bids against GYM.

This is too damn easy! :OhYes:

The crazy thing is... you not only know that I can back everything I've said up, but I also believe that you already know that my claims are true.

I'm not sure that fight is 100% confirmed.
It's not listed on boxrec, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it's still in the works.

Sergey Kovalev = Blatantly ducked Adonis Stevenson when he refused to participate in the WBC’s purse bid for a fight the Canadian champion had already committed to participating in.

Artur Beterbiev = GYM decided that Beterbiev should go for the IBF strap and then engage in a title unification against Stevenson

Oleksandr Gvozdyk = Only obtained a top 15 ranked position in the WBC’s ratings in June of last year. He is promoted by Top Rank, who was previously committed to showcasing their talent almost exclusively on HBO, which (up until three months ago) effectively ruled him out of contention to face Adonis Stevenson on Showtime. There have also been other fighters ahead of him in the “queue” formulated by the WBC

Isaac Chilemba = Has only won four of his last nine fights. He’s a Main Events fighter who rarely appears on Showtime due to Kathy Duva's working relationship with HBO. Was defeated by Eleider Alvarez in a WBC final eliminator, so he totally failed to earn a shot at Stevenson

Eleider Alvarez = Will be facing Adonis Stevenson in December

Too damn easy!

I wonder if Stevenson regrets running from kovalev now. Duck gets thrown around lightly, but he ducked the fornicate out of Sergey. He could have beat him.

Sergey Kovalev rejected a guaranteed opportunity to face Adonis Stevenson.

You can't keep ignoring the truth, since it would only take you a split second to verify the claim that I have made.

FACT... Kovaled "ducked" Stevenson! :TU:

I'll say it one more time, because you're clearly living in denial... FACT... Kovaled "ducked" Stevenson!   :OhYes:

Even Kathy Duva confirmed this FFS! :TU:

Like Luis Ortiz, Stevensons career has been a disappointnent. Talented but a waste of time.
