Inductees into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHoF) during 2018?

Post by Enlightened-One »

I thought I’d create a thread to discuss the fighters being voted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHoF) during 2018.

There are 32 candidates on this year's ballot for “modern fighters” (whose last fight came no earlier than 1989), where it has also been at least five years since their last contest.

Electors can vote for up to five fighters and the top three who receives the most votes can make plans for induction during 2018.

Here's a list of the fighters on the IBHoF ballot:

• Chris Eubank Sr.
• Darius Michalczewski
• Donald Curry
• Erik Morales
• Fernando Vargas
• Genaro Hernandez
• Gianfranco Rosi
• Gilberto Roman
• Henry Maske
• Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
• James "Buddy" McGirt
• Julian Jackson
• Leo Gamez
• Meldrick Taylor
• Michael Moorer
• Miguel "Happy" Lora
• Nigel Benn
• Orzubek "Gussie" Nazarov
• Paulie Ayala
• Ratanapol Sor Vorapin
• Ricky Hatton
• Rocky Lockridge
• Ronald "Winky" Wright
• Samuel Serrano
• Santos Laciar
• Sot Chitalada
• Sung-Kil Moon
• Sven Ottke
• Vinny Pazienza
• Vitali Klitschko
• Wilfredo Vazquez Sr.
• Yuri Arbachakov

Here’s how two members of the Boxing Writers Association of America voted:

Josh Katzowitz:
• Erik Morales
• Vitali Klitschko
• Ricky Hatton
• Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
• Darius Michalczewski

He explained that he used the following criteria to assist with his decision-making:
• Dominance in a division and inclusion on the mythical pound-for-pound list
• A sustained reign as one of the top fighters in the sport
• A fighter’s popularity or money-making abilities

Dan Rafael:
• Erik Morales
• Vitali Klitschko
• Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
• Ronald "Winky" Wright
• Genaro Hernandez

He didn’t articulate the general criteria that he used to cast his votes. Instead, he explained his thoughts on each of these five fighters.

I would have created a voting poll to ascertain the thoughts of the forum, but unfortunately there is a technical limitation of ten options, which is obviously insufficient to cater for casting votes for a selection of 32 fighters.

Thoughts?

Surely this should be in the history section.

It's about the current boxing hall of fame ballot not a past ballot.

If I had a vote my picks would be:
Morales
V. Klitschko
Wright
Hatton
Calderon

It was started by a poster that literally reports posts about fighters that aren't currently fighting. Laciar is richly deserving, vitali will soon be the least deserving fighter in it.

lol.
Was not aware of that first part.

Only get to put five names on the ballot.
Any given name being left off doesn't necessarily mean I don't think they should get into the IBHOF eventually. With only 5 available choices deserving candidates are going to get bumped from the list.

Yeah, my only issue there would be vitali. Morales is the only sure fire of the new ones, though all but Klitschko are deserving. I'd go morales, michalczewski, curry, laciar and winky.

You’re being told pure utter búllshít!

First of all, if someone posts a thread, something like “Is Muhammad Ali greater than Rocky Marciano?”, I’ll ask the question: “Why has this been posted to the current scene board?

And second, I haven’t reported any threads of this nature.

And finally third, this thread is about the Hall-of-Fame inductees that are currently being voted for, with the top three vote getters being inducted during June of next year.

I can’t believe a troll has convinced you that he’s said something truthful.

Can't believe J Jackson isn't already in there! One of the hardest punchers ever, if not the hardest

Julian Jackson's resume is pretty thin, though. He beat like... Buster Drayton, pre-prime Terry Norris, Herol Graham, and Agostino Cardamone.
