There are 32 candidates on this year's ballot for “modern fighters” (whose last fight came no earlier than 1989), where it has also been at least five years since their last contest.
Electors can vote for up to five fighters and the top three who receives the most votes can make plans for induction during 2018.
Here's a list of the fighters on the IBHoF ballot:
• Chris Eubank Sr.
• Darius Michalczewski
• Donald Curry
• Erik Morales
• Fernando Vargas
• Genaro Hernandez
• Gianfranco Rosi
• Gilberto Roman
• Henry Maske
• Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
• James "Buddy" McGirt
• Julian Jackson
• Leo Gamez
• Meldrick Taylor
• Michael Moorer
• Miguel "Happy" Lora
• Nigel Benn
• Orzubek "Gussie" Nazarov
• Paulie Ayala
• Ratanapol Sor Vorapin
• Ricky Hatton
• Rocky Lockridge
• Ronald "Winky" Wright
• Samuel Serrano
• Santos Laciar
• Sot Chitalada
• Sung-Kil Moon
• Sven Ottke
• Vinny Pazienza
• Vitali Klitschko
• Wilfredo Vazquez Sr.
• Yuri Arbachakov
Here’s how two members of the Boxing Writers Association of America voted:
Josh Katzowitz:
• Erik Morales
• Vitali Klitschko
• Ricky Hatton
• Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
• Darius Michalczewski
He explained that he used the following criteria to assist with his decision-making:
• Dominance in a division and inclusion on the mythical pound-for-pound list
• A sustained reign as one of the top fighters in the sport
• A fighter’s popularity or money-making abilities
Dan Rafael:
• Erik Morales
• Vitali Klitschko
• Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon
• Ronald "Winky" Wright
• Genaro Hernandez
He didn’t articulate the general criteria that he used to cast his votes. Instead, he explained his thoughts on each of these five fighters.
I would have created a voting poll to ascertain the thoughts of the forum, but unfortunately there is a technical limitation of ten options, which is obviously insufficient to cater for casting votes for a selection of 32 fighters.
Thoughts?
