tell me about adonis
this guy back around 2013 looked like a serious talent to me. speed, one of the top p4p punchers in the sport, boxing and countering skills. he destroyed dawson, cloud, and bellew. bellew now has had a really good career. ppl made a deal out of the fonfara fight but really stevenson won like 9 rounds in that and fonfara was no bum.
why did his opposition get so much lamer when he was showing so much? ive always thought he wouldve kod kovalev and i think hes underachieved. i think hes, or at least was, level above guys like bert, bivol, barrera, gvdzyk etc. still at nearly 40 i think on purely ability hes arguably top at lhw. i rate him top 3 with kov and jack.

Good fighter, with a powerful straight left that has defended his title against some of the softest competition of any Champion going since winning the title, and has diminished the significance of the Championship he won.
40 years old now, and ready to be taken...even if he continues to try to hand pick his opponents.

Re: tell me about adonis
He has the ability to beat all the top guys at 175.. he's just not taken the fights. I doubt he's ever earned even a $1m purse..
Re: tell me about adonis
He's a flat out Chickenshitt who isn't any good -- as Darnell Boone proved when he knocked Chickenshitt out.
Dawson was already washed up when he fought Chickenson... as Jean Pascal previously proved... Chickenson has beaten nobody... When Joe Smith knocked Fonfara out very easily in the first round -- that's when Al Haymon considered Fonfara a viable title contender for a redo.

Re: tell me about adonis
Stevenson is pretty one dimensional...that left is his everything, but if he can land it he can knock out anyone...though I think Kovalev would absolutely destroy Stevenson.
Re: tell me about adonis
I think he is more than a great left KO punch.
He can move really well, and is tricky to hit and has a lot of experience.
Unfortunately he will probably retire with the belt before he ever proves it against the top guys.
Adonis (pronounced; a-duck-is)
Latin. Meaning he who ducks.
Verb.
Aducked, Aducking, Aducker.
In a sentence;
I threw the Frisbee at his head and he Aducked it.

Re: tell me about adonis
he also has a good right jab and though his powershot is all the left he mixes the cross to the head with left crosses and long hooks to the body. and ya, speed, movement, timing to go with the brutal left

Big pimpng baby!!!!
Re: tell me about adonis
I don't think he has the ability to beat all the top guys at 175, and I don't think his management thinks that either. That's why he's never fought the top guys in spite of reigning as Light Heavyweight Champion for several years now.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Nov 2017, 19:16 He has the ability to beat all the top guys at 175.. he's just not taken the fights. His title win still remains his best win to date, and probably always will remain so because he hasn't had the guts to test himself against the better guys in the division.
I'd take Kovalev, Beterbiev, or Gvozdyk to beat him.
Eleider Alvarez or Badou Jack I'd favor over him as well, but those are winnable fights for Stevenson at least.
Re: tell me about adonis
You missed the fight where 2nd rater Darnell Boone knocked him out... And you missed 2nd rater Fonfara knocking him down and hurting him... Chickenson isn't a real good boxer or defender.. He's wide open.. He's a 2-round job for Kovalev.
Re: tell me about adonis
He was prime form when he beat Bellew, I believe. Mix of bad promoting and not making the big fight with Pascal/Hopkins/Kovalev hurt his stock and led him to fight PBC on Cable TV.
With his second bout with Fonfara, I think that killed alot of his popularity. With the fights with Seanie and Smith Jr. a bust.

Re: tell me about adonis
Never really rated Adonis particular highly. Huge puncher obviously, but I always felt Froch would have battered him at 168 and all the top 175 guys beat him too (Kovalev would absolutely destroy him). As Gil points out above, it seems Adonis’s management have similar feelings as they’ve never been keen to match him hard.
Re: tell me about adonis
There is usually a good reason to protect fighter. The team knows something that the public does not.
It is better to have the belt and fight for peanuts then to take a loss in slightly bigger match. With the belt there is always chance to cash in on big fight. Maybe ward if he comes back? He is not that big draw thou...
Same situation with Wilder...

Idiotic Post from an Idiot.
Re: tell me about adonis
I always thought Stevenson was looking for that one off fight that would make him financially stable, because he's done F all against anyone for ages.
Does his name sill carry weight ?
A bit but more among core boxing fans I would've thought.
All that said a Kovalev v Stevenson fight would interest me.

Why can't they have that fight in Montreal ?

Re: tell me about adonis
Adonis Stevenson has punching power but when you compare that to his downsides it's no wonder why he has kept clear of the elite in the division. He has very sloppy skills, he tends to lose his balance alot and engage in slugfests that have resulted in him picking himself up off the floor by lesser opposition. He lacks good balance and as a previous poster stated he is one dimensional. He is athletic but nothing elite about him outside of above average punching power. For this reason, i have no doubt his career likely ends without fighting Kovalev, Beterbiev, Bivol, etc... he would not be able to match up with the skillset and well rounded athleticism of these guys who also have. This guy is ageing and fights once a year. He may shock everyone and fight someone for a massive payday to end his career against kovalev or beterbiev but he will be beaten so badly that he will be forgotten quicker than Kirk Jonhson.

Re: tell me about adonis
The situation around his title defences is just ridiculous. The division has pretty much tough competitors, but WBC allows to chose somebody else, whose credibility is questionable.

Re: tell me about adonis
But he is effectively pulling himself out of any rankings and not being active makes him less likely to be considered, seriously against these other top shelf fighters. If and when he does decide to do something i doubt(very highly) that it will work out for him. The man is the oldest of all the top fighters in the division. Clearly at this point everyone who knows the state of the light heavies also knows that Stevenson is inactive and has done everything to avoid fighting the elites of the division. There will be a point where he will have to face the music or become even more irrelevent(if thats even possible).
