Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
Just suffered his first Pro loss to another great cruiserweight.
Likely will come back later this year.. the WBSS will be up in May.. I doubt he fights around Summer time.
What do you rekon he should do? Take an easy fight? Get straight back in with a big dog? Call out Lebedev? Wait for the winner of WBSS and fight him later this year?
I hope he doesn't sit out too long. He's not exactly young either. Still a lot of good fights to be made for him. I heard some mentioning he could do well at HW? He has fought above 200 pounds a few times.
Thoughts on this?

i would like to see him vs Vlasov next, then the winner to face Lebedev
other than that, i would like to see him vs Glowacki if he finally overcomes his injuries and just gets in proper shape (10 february he is back in Poland on the same card with Wlodarczyk, but Glowacki's opponent is to be announced... so i don't expect impressive opponent, Wlodarczyk's opponent is not impressive too, http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/543468

Would definately be a good fight. He hasn't fought many good names in the division until recently. Huck, Perez, Usyk.. Vlasov would be a good name on his resume.

Durodola, Huck, Perez, Charr it's still not a bad resumeRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:30Would definately be a good fight. He hasn't fought many good names in the division until recently. Huck, Perez, Usyk.. Vlasov would be a good name on his resume.
i remember he had to face Bellew before he moved up to HW
Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
He should move up at HW, and fight Tyson Fury - he would lose, but it would be very lucrative.
Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
Wow the nuthugging starts, now Oleksandr Usyk with his superior boxing skills is goig to wipe out the heavyweight division?
Mairis Briedis will do well in the cruiserweight division, perhaps a rematch would be in order. Not sure what this fight shows, beside these two fighting each other they have not really been tested by anyone.
Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
Or take on Lebedev right away.dagilechia wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:28 i would like to see him vs Vlasov next, then the winner to face Lebedev

sure, but Lebedev is not willing to face anyone decent i think.DrDuke wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 11:02Or take on Lebedev right away.dagilechia wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:28 i would like to see him vs Vlasov next, then the winner to face Lebedev
i should add that Briedis vs Vlasov could be a nice eliminator to WBA title fight
Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
Yeah. I'd even be happy to see WBA stripping him of the title and putting it for the winner of the tournament in order to make the real leader of the division an undisputed champ.

Who's nuthugging? Not once did I say he won't do well in the cruiserweight division. It's a simple question around what should he do in the short term.Freedom wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:48 Wow the nuthugging starts, now Oleksandr Usyk with his superior boxing skills is goig to wipe out the heavyweight division?Mairis Briedis will do well in the cruiserweight division, perhaps a rematch would be in order. Do you not think Usyk and Briedis tested each other?

He's only had 24 fights (correct me), the 4 names listed are good enough names.dagilechia wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:33Durodola, Huck, Perez, Charr it's still not a bad resumeRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:30Would definately be a good fight. btw i'm not sure we can mention 15 HW's with better record than Briedis, his record is even good for HW standards, he have beaten 1 current HW, 1 past HW, 1 fighter that fought at least once in HW, both are more or less respectable names on someones resume
Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
Saw someone on Twitter suggest that the losers of both semi-finals should fight on the undercard of the final. I'd like to see Briedis vs Gassiev or Dorticos, maybe with the winner getting a shot at Usyk after the tournament finishes, if he chooses to stay at Cruiserweight.

Great idea. They should definately do it. Same with the SMW guys.ElJefe wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 12:10 Saw someone on Twitter suggest that the losers of both semi-finals should fight on the undercard of the final. With an undisputed champion, it may be likely that a title gets stripped from the winner, you know with the mando's etc.. Briedis is good enough to regain a portion of the world titles.dagilechia wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 11:59yeah he had 24 fightsRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 11:56He's only had 24 fights (correct me), the 4 names listed are good enough names.dagilechia wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:33

I think Briedis should stay at 200 for maybe 5 more fights. Until he's 35. He won't have dipped too much in performance. He can always chase a one off fight in that time. Or move up fully at 35. I think he's 33 now.
Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
Either go after Lebedev's fake WBA title, or try to secure matches vs some of the top guys at Cruiserweight.
Personally I would like to see Briedis - Glowacki, the winner facing Usyk in a rematch.
But honestly, after yesterday's performance, I think Mairis will be the #2 most avoided fighter at Cruiserweight now. I have a feeling the only way he will be able to get fights now will be through mandatory status.

Shouldn't be hard for him to become a mando again. Who is the #1 most avoided?klitoris wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 13:20 Either go after Lebedev's fake WBA title, or try to secure matches vs some of the top guys at Cruiserweight.

Lebedev hasn't got the fake WBA title BTW. i don't agree that it wasn't defended. That's the WBA, who rules such a ridiculous decision.
Lebedev only fought once last year. Don't get why he is so inactive.

Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
i guess he is waiting for his last big payday, he hopes unification fight vs WBSS winner. if it's Usyk - great, if it's Gassiev - even better, rematch after a close fight and a unification of all 4 belts between 2 Russians, i guess they'll add Povetkin to the undercard, also guys like Troyanovsky, Kuzmin, Papin etc and Lebedev gets his last big payday and we, fans, would see another great Russian cardRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 13:26Shouldn't be hard for him to become a mando again. i think Lebedev knows he is past it, he just wants to avoid a surprise in being beaten by someone average in an no-money fight

Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
Briedis will be avoided like the plague after last night. He made Usyk work hard to get that win. Not many boxers in CW that I would bet to win against him. Without that belt it will be hard to get fights
Re: Mairis Briedis: Short-term Future?
No not you just the reverberation going around. They tested each other, show a pretty much even skill level with Usyk more exciting to watch. I still cannot gauge just how good they are without each them fighting a top quality fighter. Lebedev would just get pounded on for twelve rounds, by either fighter,DrDuke wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 11:02Or take on Lebedev right away.dagilechia wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 10:28 i would like to see him vs Vlasov next, then the winner to face Lebedev
all Levedev really has is chin and heart.

Ryabinsky will keep Lebedev who suffered significant damage in his long career and Gassiev fight in particular away from Briedis.

Definately the best thing. It would mean he fights again in May, but he would have an extra week rest.wesshaw1985 wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 18:23 Should face the loser of Gassiev vs. Dorticos on the undercard of the finals.
