Who scored it for Eubank Jr?

Post by Deserter »

I only ask as I've just read Kevin Mitchell's report for The Observer and he seems to be on a completely different planet to everyone else and had Eubank Jr as the winner...

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/ ... ght-report

I've always enjoyed Mitchell's writing, but he seems to be an appalling judge of fights, as this is far from the first time he seems to have watched a completely different bout to everyone else.

From this vantage point at ringside, the first semi-final was closer than two of the three judges reckoned. Howard Foster scored it 117-112 and Steve Gray had 116-112, both for the winner, while Marcus McDonnell’s card of 115-113 for Groves was closer to many estimates
ya kev, everyone had it like you

i think he likes to be different

groves won clear as day, i hadnt seen a card not for him till you mentioned mitchell

Same here, which is why I was so astonished. He's getting absolutely rinsed in the comments section of the article (rightly so).

Clear as day Groves won. Eubank was also knocked down twice which weren't counted.

Kev perhaps needs to go to specsaver?

I had it about the same as the judge who had it 115/113 for Grove the commentators ruined the viewing they had the fight over by rounds 6/7 they need to call the fight not predict what the outcome while the fights on i had to turn the volume down by round 9 there were some close rounds especially early round 5 i thought Eubank won that round clearly but one of the commentators had Grove winning it Eubank tactics were dumb but still George did enough to get the nod.

116-112 was pretty generous towards Eubank, 115-113 was a joke.

Did anyone else feel that there were 3 knockdowns that should have been scored against Eubank?

If they had, my score would have been something like 188-109.

Eubank has a great many physical attributes and is an excellent athlete, but he will never be an elite level boxer due to his and his father's arrogance.

The people that felt Eubank won are holding their own press conference.

I think Eubank Jr scored it for himself. No one else did other than this guy.

It's the Guardian, no surprise. Groves would be 6 down before the fight even started.

The Eubanks are a pair of ruthless narcissistic fookers (and I was a big fan of senior in his heyday).

After the fight rather than wishing Groves well the first thing Junior said was if Groves has hurt his shoulder does that mean that I box in the final?

Hopefully it doesn't, and without this tournament format the Eubanks are going to find it very difficult to get managers and promoters to deal with them as they are so difficult.

I had Groves by 2 points at the end. He was 3 up before the last which I gave to CEJ

Boxing is as always very subjective.

The Fight Score app collected 430 scores and their collated score is on the link below.
Based on a majority vote for each round they had it 118-110 Groves with Eubank getting the nod from the viewers for rounds 9 and 12 only.
The widest rounds for Groves were 1 & 2 followed by 10 & 11.

This sort of group voting can be manipulated of course as fans of one fighter can vote blindly for their favourite every round but I think this is a pretty fair summary of the fight I saw too.

Perhaps, but I did only gave Eubank 2 rounds with maybe a share of 1.
The knokdowns weren't counted so my score was more like 118-111.
116-112 is a bit of a stretch, but not a terrible card. 120-108 would be just as accurate in my eyes.
