Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
Interested to see people’s views. I’d have him at number 2 behind Joshua.

Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
4th or 5th.
He's easily behind BJS, Frampton and Joshua - he'd have had to have beaten Carl Froch to be no.1, or at least Badou Jack to break the top 3.
He's about level with Kell Brook (slightly better win, beating Porter away from home, and no shame in losing to GGG and giving Spence fits for 6/7 rounds), but ahead of Kal Yafai, Burnett, Selby etc.

In addition to Joshua and Frampton, I would place Saunders ahead of him and possibly Flanagan also. I know Terry hasn't exactly thrilled the nation in his last four fights but he has won a world title (recently vacated), has some solid names on his record, has shown himself to be a highly accomplished technical boxer and is unbeaten in 33. I appreciate that there are good arguments for placing George ahead of him though. Tough one to call.

Flanagan is nowhere near Groves' level.East End wrote: ↑20 Feb 2018, 13:00 In addition to Joshua and Frampton, I would place Saunders ahead of him and possibly Flanagan also. Not a tough one to call whatsoever.

Not sure about that.East End wrote: ↑20 Feb 2018, 13:00 In addition to Joshua and Frampton, I would place Saunders ahead of him and possibly Flanagan also. With the likes of BJS, Frampton, Joshua, Groves, Brook, Yafai, Selby, Burnett, Quigg and McDonnell around, I'm not sure Flanagan even makes my personal top 10.
Sure, some of those have lost fights (even recently), but it's about level of opposition for me. There's no shame in losing your '0', if you do it whilst challenging yourself. Every single one of those 10 I listed has at least one or two far better wins on their CV than Flanagan does.
The pre-Shawn Porter version of Kell Brook arguably beat as good or better than Flanagan has up to now (Senchenko, Jones, Matthew Hatton etc - they aren't any worse than Matthews, Cruz and Magdaleno).
It's a shame, because I actually think he's decent. Bigger shame, because rather than chase Linares and Lomachenko, he now seems to be being steered towards Jack Catterall and Ohara Davies...
Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
Yeah, it's not easy to justify but I do think TF's record of opposition is reasonably good, albeit nothing to shout from the rooftops. I just see him as being very strong technically and, as such, I think he is capable of hanging with the elite given the chance. You are, of course, absolutely right in saying that Groves has beaten higher calibre opponents but against a couple of the lesser names on his record - Rebrasse and Gutknecht - I saw chinks in George's armour that I have yet to see in Terry'sDeleted_Scenes wrote: ↑20 Feb 2018, 13:20Not sure about that.East End wrote: ↑20 Feb 2018, 13:00 In addition to Joshua and Frampton, I would place Saunders ahead of him and possibly Flanagan also. George Groves
Martin Murray
Chris Eubank Jr
Fedor Chudinov
James DeGale
Badou Jack - (Lost)
Carl Froch I - (Lost)
Carl Froch II - (Lost)
Glen Johnson
Paul Smith
Christopher Rebrasse
Terry Flanagan
Diego Magdaleno
Petr Petrov
Jose Zepeda
Derry Mathews II
Stephen Ormond
Mzonke Fana
Nate Campbell
Orlando Cruz
Martin Gethin
Gary Sykes
Groves top 10 results seems significantly better than Flanagan's.
Groves has beaten Chudinov, Cox & Eubank Jr since Flanagan last had a fight, so he's also been significantly more active and against mostly good opposition.

Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
groves has only lost to people a level or several above anyone flan's fought though. I don't think flanagan being unbeaten and groves having losses matters much. we could also say flan has never proved that he can be competitive on the elite level that groves hasEast End wrote: ↑20 Feb 2018, 13:00 In addition to Joshua and Frampton, I would place Saunders ahead of him and possibly Flanagan also. groves came close to shutting out rebrasse and gut and i thought didnt look any worse a fighter than flan does. flan also had some very lackluster showing like vs derry in the rematch and fana

Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
Did you feel at any stage in the fights against Mathews and Fana that Flanagan was in danger of losing them, because I certainly never did. In fact, to me, Terry has never looked in danger of losing any fight I have seen him in. Not exhilirating to watch I grant you but that doesn't necessarily make them bad performances.jamamb wrote: ↑20 Feb 2018, 15:43groves has only lost to people a level or several above anyone flan's fought though. Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
i never felt he was in any danger of losing them but i didnt either with gutnecht and rebrasse, the opponents you mentioned for groves. i rate the groves pair higher actually and i thought george came close to winning every round in those fights combined
did you think groves looked like he was going to lose to rebrasse or gutneckt? i certainly didnt, imo i dont think he lost more than 2 rounds out of the 22 total (or whatever it was)

Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
Groves has been a little unlucky as well he had the beating of badou Jack I think but was told he was winning by his corner and coasted instead of finishing strong and look what jack has gone on to do .in froch he thought a fighter of amazing recovery powers and a very early stoppage in the first fight.
Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
With George's current seven fight win streak combined with being a reigning World Champion, I'd say that he's a guarantee for the top five.
Especially with DeGale, Eubank and Kell Brook recent losses...

Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
I would say he is in the top 3/4 alongside Anthony Joshua, Carl Frampton, and BJS for me. As for the order of who is top of the pile I am not certain.
Re: Where would George Groves be in the current British P4P rankings?
There's no way Flanagan can be compared p4p with Groves. Groves above Brook for me, Porter was a long time ago now. I personally think he has better wins recently than Joshua, Klitschko excepted.
Frampton, Saunders and Groves would be my top 3. You have to place Groves above De Gale now I think.
I'd have no problem with any order of that top 3.

It feels like we are approaching the end of a generation. The top level of British boxing has a lot of fighters at or nearing the end of their careers. We need the next generation to break through in the next year or two
