Round-by-Round: Bradley Skeete vs. Kerman Lejarraga - 28 April 2018
Re: Round-by-Round: Bradley Skeete vs. Kerman Lejarraga - 28 April 2018
You’re right Stu, It’s actually really hard to see where Skeete goes isn’t it? As skilled and all as he is, he’s not exactly the type of boxer who appeals to the boxing public and welterweight is pretty packed at the moment. He’ll need to keep busy anyway, pick up a few ranking body trinkets and hope something pops up like a late pull out for a title fight.
That guy tonight definitely has his number so no point chasing a rematch.

TBF to Skeete he is a skilled boxer who can outbox top fighters, tonight makes you wonder if he would've ever beaten Horn but I can see him outboxing an ageing top fighter like PacquiaoDeno1986 wrote: ↑28 Apr 2018, 19:50 You’re right Stu, It’s actually really hard to see where Skeete goes isn’t it? Thanks for the input Mate. Really appreciate it. Congratulations on your man winning.BasqueCountry wrote: ↑28 Apr 2018, 19:22 Kerman is a spanish boxer from the region of The Basque Country and he's the 4th European Champion until now. Everybody expected to win here but not so easy, we thought it was going to be a tought fight. Taking into account the level in the UK with plenty of Champions and that we don't have a good level overall in Spain, it's been a brilliant night.
Kerman is the only boxer who can meet 10000 people in a boxing event in Spain and is being followed around the country, where boxing in bad seen disgracefully.
He threw some lovely body shots. There was one about 5 seconds before the 1st knockdown which I think was the beginning of the end.
Looking forward to seeing him again. I remember when there were a few decent Spanish fighters. Poli Diaz was nice to watch, as was Castillejo,

The Spanish guy made Skeete look like an absolute scrub. It looked like man against boy in there.
The Spanish guy was coming forward with his jab and putting pressure on. Vernon Forrest said after the first Mayorga fight that sometimes you have to stand and bang with a pressure fighter to get his respect, then you can go back to shoe shine punches and outbox them. Skeete should have sat down on a right hand or two early. Instead he kept getting walked back and eventually caught on the end of a right hand. He needed to put this guy in his place early. Coming out with shoe shine punches works at British level but this Spanish guy looks to have something like world class power and you can't let someone like that keep walking you down with only the threat of shoe shine punches to consider.

Agree with that If you can't get the respect of a fighter ESPECIELLY a puncher your in trouble ,,TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑28 Apr 2018, 21:02 The Spanish guy made Skeete look like an absolute scrub. It looked like man against boy in there.

Wow didn’t expect that. The Spaniard looked powerful but very slow of foot against Vassell. I thought Skeete would outbox him comfortably & stop him late. Shows how much I know!
Haven’t seen the fight yet: did Skeete freeze up a bit? To let a guy like Kerman so close to you to land body shots, so early on seems bad form.

Skeete was doing the usual pitter patter stuff moving backward. The Spaniard was using his jab and coming forward. He progressively got more aggressive. I thought the Spaniard actually won the first round. The first shot that caught Skeete for the knockdown was an overhand right. The Spanish guy kind of did a stutter step to get a bit closer before he threw it. He was absolutely there to take a hard counter if Skeete had of committed to landing something early but Skeete made a career out of stinking joints out with shoe shine punches all night. That caught up with him badly tonight. After that first knockdown he was in survival mode and hurt to the body. It was the first right hand that did him really.black panther wrote: ↑28 Apr 2018, 22:27 Wow didn’t expect that. The Spaniard looked powerful but very slow of foot against Vassell. Just saw it. That body shot completely took everything out of Skeete. Leprechaun you’re right, you need some dig to keep Lerranja away.
Still feel Lerranja will be found wanting by some way against the likes of Thurman, Garcia, Spence etc but it will be a fun ride for sure.

I picked Skeete to lose before hand. I cannot for the life of me understand why Skeete and his team would agree to fight an undefeated and dangerous boxer on foreign soil. Terrible management IMO. I said it when the fight was announced.
Re: Round-by-Round: Bradley Skeete vs. Kerman Lejarraga - 28 April 2018
i think a lot of ppl underestimated the opponent and thought he was made for skeete, and that even away from home it would be skeetes fight
peronsally ive never really been that impressed by skeete and i figured lajarraga would certainly be in it even if he didnt win
tbh im glad lajarraga won, hes way more entertainng to watch and id rather track his progress as euro champ and possibly going further rather then seeing skeete get more of a push

What has this fight shown us? That Skeete isn't a Euro level operator (yet).. it's not like he lost a decision, he got beat pretty bad.
He needs to go back to domestic.
Imagine he fought Horn instead of Corcoran? I understand styles makes fights, but this 1 was wrong for him..
Also, without looking at his resume, did Skeete 'conquer' the domestic scene like many suggested?

First time I’ve watched Skeete, bit dull by all accounts, but feck me the Spaniard absolutely crushed him, broke him in 2 and broke his heart too.
Commentary seemed to indicate that Bradley was lined up for a world title shot?
So his team making this fight they must’ve been super confident.. the stunned red face on the usually cocky Andy Ayling at the end was a picture.![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
