Joe Joyce looked slow awkward and clumsy in his last two outings against the small cruiserweight Ivica Bacurin and a journeyman like Lenroy Thomas.

I don’t envisage the Brit accomplishing very much in the sport. I think he’s the second coming of Michael Grant, but less talented and mobile than the previously hyped-up American.

I think he might surprise you. He's not the quickest and he doesn't have outstanding technique, but he does the basics very well - when he wants (or maybe needs) to.

He has a good jab, he's very strong and hits hard without being a huge hitter. It doesn't look like Bryant Jennings wants to take him on and I for one think that's one of Bryant's better decisions.

He may never win a world title but I think he's already a top ten contender in ability, even though he hasn't yet earned a top ten ranking. If he doesn't achieve that this year it'll be because none of the established contenders want to face him.

If you want to dismiss him as a hype job then be my guest.

Whilst I admire your optimism, Joe Joyce hasn’t demonstrated anything inside the ring to justify the amount of hype he’s received.

I’d like to see the former Olympian to do well, but I can’t help getting frustrated about his lack of boxing ability when I see him fight.

Joyce’s handlers keep mentioning their desire to pit him against several big names, but I’m not convinced that they’ve actually bothered to submit any serious offers to make those fights happen.

I think some of you here overestimate the heayweight division. Joyce being slow and plodding just makes him the same as 99% of the active heavyweights. You also hear people call Joshua plodding...

Just a reminder you don't have to be that good to get far in a weak division. On that, he is clearly in top 20 ability-wise otherwise people would be taking the fight for the money (rumoured being offered) in seconds.

If that's the case then Joyce is destined to become a damned good fighter & claim a piece of the heavyweight crown.
Tate had some mad skills & took apart decent fighters like Bernardo Mercado, Duane Bobick, Kallie Knoetze & Gerrie Coetzee. He also damn near shut out Mike Weaver before getting caught in the 15th round. Maybe those aren't HOF credentials but they made him an above average heavyweight.

Hopefully, Joyce's people will begin seriously stepping up his opposition with his next opponent. These one or two round wonders aren't going to get him anywhere close to where he wants to be. And, I think the first step toward that is to forget about defending his Commonwealth title for a bit & import some decent American journeymen to give him some rounds.
