Vitali Klitschko, Lennox Lewis to hold exhibition fight in Kyiv in autumn

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Boxing: Vitali Klitschko, Lennox Lewis to hold exhibition fight in Kyiv in autumn"

The event will take place within the frameworks of the WBC Congress, which the Ukrainian capital is to host for the first time in its history.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko is to put on his boxer gloves once again - just for one single fight. The three-time world heavyweight champion will face another ex-champion and the great fighter of his time, Lennox Lewis.

The Ukrainian and the Englishman will go toe-to-toe in the exhibition fight, which is to take place during the 56th WBC Congress in Kyiv. It is to be running from September 30 through October 5, with the Ukrainian capital hosting the event for the first time.

The exhibition fight will actually be a part of the charity action; no more details are available so far.

Klitschko and Lewis fought in June 2003, with many reporters labeling it as the 'best heavyweight division fight of the decade'. The referee stopped the bout as Klitschko suffered a bad cut on his face. The Ukrainian did not agree on the decision and demanded a remarch; Lewis promised him that but failed to keep this promise, ending his professional career several months after that.

This is simply going to be a very gentle slow sparring session between two middle-aged men that get on really well.

By the time this exhibition takes place during the autumn, the combined age of Lewis (53) and Klitschko (47) will be 100 years.

In stark contrast, when we witnessed the two old “Geezers at Ceasars” event between Foreman and Clooney, the combined age of both competitors was merely 77 years.

The combined age of both participants in the Azumah Nelson versus Jeff Fenech third bout was 93 years.

When Larry Homes (52½) competed in his final bout against Butterbean (36), the combined age of both participants was merely 88½ years.

Therefore, don’t build your hopes up for anything other than a few rounds of light-hearted slow motion jabbing.

It would be funny if Klitschko was stopped on cuts.

And 15 years later Boxrec members would still argue what would have happened if he wasn't bleeding

Seems like fun. Two of the best boxers of the last eras. I hope it doesn’t end like Drago v Creed. ;-)

Is this fake news? :oo

I'm not sure about Vitali, but Lennox doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to do something like this.

But come on Wilt would beat both Lennox and Vitali at the same time even after beating Ali blind folded with one arm tied behind his back.

Vitali is in great shape, Lennox looks in a great shape too on the resent photo near his car. Vitali will be 47 and Lennox will be 53 in September, but remember how easily Larry Holmes went the distance in 52 against Erik Esch? Saying that, of course, this won't be a seriuos fight. I think it will be much closer to Wlad's "fight" against Lennox from 'Ocean's 11' than, say, the exhibition fight between Tyson and Corey Sanders, where real punches were thrown.

It also has too be noted that these two and 56 y.o. Holyfield are in MUCH better shape than a lot of current HWs such as Miller, Ruiz, Kownacki, Gorman, Kuzmin and others.

Yeah but you only need to throw 3 punches a round to outwork Butterbean

The official websites of both the WBC and also the Klitschko brothers reported the same story, as well as numerous media outlets. So people weren't being gullible when they bought into this fake news.

Yeah... cause it was Lewis that got his face torn up during their previous fight right?

He tore up Vitali's face by raking his glove across it to open a cut and then his head into it ALL FIGHT LONG! An honest referee would have disqualified Lewis. Vitali was never even cut before in his entire boxing and kickboxing career. You can see Lewis doing it in the fight video, over and over and over.
