Deontay Wilder actually lost weight after the weigh-in

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Neither Tyson Fury nor Deontay Wilder needed to cut any weight for their WBC heavyweight title fight last weekend and there was a curious quirk of weight come fight night.

Fury, who had undergone a remarkable body transformation after initially ballooning up to 400lbs during his time away from the ring, weighed in at 256.5lbs and 'The Gypsy King' found Wilder's weight hilarious as the American came in at just 212.5lbs.

In an attempt to address the health implications of drastic weight cuts, the California State Athletic Commission has recently been releasing official fight night weights as well as weigh-in results, and the CSAC now makes recommendations to fighters for whom the difference is significant.

Wilder has nothing to worry about in that regard because he strangely weighed lighter on Saturday night than he did on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles.

'The Bronze Bomber' weighed in at 209.4lbs on fight night, meaning he'd somehow lost 3lbs in the 24 hours when most fighters are attempting to get as big as possible.

Wilder couldn't explain how he managed that but his insistence on sporting a mask and his refusal to take off his sweatpants on Friday may be the reason.

That thin at his height in an impact sport in which you throw the most violent blows does not bode well for longevity in the sport. Stress fractures, hand injuries and impact fractures ( similar to the one he claimed happened in sparring prior to camp) are likely to continue and pile up.

I am losing 2 pounds overnight. Not sure why Wilder losing 3 is worth a discussion.

Then don’t participate.

Everyone loses weight overnight, but this was over 24 hours later at the end of the day. He should have been putting weight on or at least holding steady.

Wilder’s low weight is a factor in the HW div.

He looks better and more fuller at around 220 pounds(ish)..

At that weight he looks in peak condition. Don't know why he's droppng too much weight.

That was the reason, he crapped his pants acknowledging, how soon The Gypsy King would expose him.

Wilder weighed 209 pounds, according to the WBC champion, when he stepped on another scale in his dressing room following Friday’s official weigh-in just outside Staples Center in Los Angeles. The 6-feet-7 Wilder also said on a conference call Tuesday that the 6-feet-9 Fury unofficially was 260 pounds when the big British challenger was weighed in his dressing room.

“You’re looking at a guy who weighed in at 212,” said Wilder, who fought Fury to a 12-round split draw. “And then, when I got dressed in the back of the room, and came in with the official weigh-in, with the people that weighed me, I came in at 209. I couldn’t believe my weight dropped even more, you know, after I weighed in. You know, that kind of bothered me as well, too, because I’m not the type of guy – I’ve always said I’d rather be the part than look the part.”

“Looking the part, I don’t care about that so much because I know I have the power,” Wilder said. “I don’t have big-man power. Some guys, Fury have big-man power. He don’t have punching power, he have big-man power. I don’t have the big-man power, but I do have punching power. And I know that right there exceeds all expectations of me. That, right there, puts me at the top over everything because no matter with me, I’m a dangerous fighter.

“You’ve gotta be cautious from the first to the [last] second of the 12th round. That’s what’s so unique about me. That’s what makes me so special. You know, I have so much energy and talent in this sport. All my guys have out-weighed me. Fury came in at 260, so I gave up 50-something-plus [pounds in] weight in this fight, and still was able to put him on the floor like I did.”

Pretty much speaking truth there. What it does not take into account is that every top 15 HW is a threat from the first round until finish to stop Wilder.

Also, he ignores the wear and tear on his hammers.

Wilder is sounding like a loser who has excuses and needs to pump up his bruised ego. My Wilder Fandom Card is wearing thin. I broke my arm; I have powerful punches; the ref took 22 seconds...UGH!

Same, you could tell he knew he lost at the end, I don't expect him to say it, I don't even mind he claiming he deserved the nod, but the excuse making is always a bit pathetic.

Definitely not a great look, but not unexpected. It all plays into the rematch marketing.

Wilder is not very big, he's just tall. I have doubts he's even cutting. I'd imagine if he put forth the effort to cut that he can make CW. Not sure why people think Usyk is too small too.
