Wilder vs Fury wasn't even the best fight Wilder was in this year. Wilder vs Luis Ortiz was better than that.

One dramatic moment doesn't make a fight of the year. If you want to call it "Boxing Moment of the Year" yeah maybe you got a case there, but it certainly wasn't the greatest all around fight. Not even close. I watched it twice, and wouldn't watch it a 3rd time. Fight of the Year type fights are usually worth multiple views, and are always fun to revisit.
The end of Hurd/Lara was at least equally dramatic.
I agree, it just wasn't last week so people forget I guess.

I go for Gassiev/Dorticos for the FOTY.

I didn't see the first several rounds really compelling me that Pov could actually win. Maybe I should watch it again. It was certainly more entertaining than Wilder/Fury. Still no comparison to loma vs linares.
everyone's opinion is subjective of course, when watching AJ vs Pov i had a strong feeling that a surprise is a distinct possibility, i had no such a strong feeling during Loma vs Linares (though it was quite a close fight of course), someone could feel otherwise.
After Loma was knocked down for the first time as a pro, I thought Linares could actually do it. Right up to the stoppage I had the fight even. One judge agreed with me, the other two were split, that's how close it was.

It's a bitter irony that the two best fights/performances of the year were embroiled in the scandal of horrible decisions. GGG was robbed against Canelo (again) as was Fury robbed against Wilder.

I'd have to give Fury the nod in the FOTY department because NOBODY expected him to box that well considering where he came from a year ago, and so soon. Very few people said Fury would win, but that's what he did.

So for me, that's more impressive of a performance than GGG/Canelo 2 because that rematch was more competitive than the first fight--- and both men were considered equally great and prime condition.

Fury was essentially written off and did what he did. So certainly performance of the year, even if it may not have been as exciting as GGG/Canelo 2.

If you've not seen it give it a watch, a high skilled, 12 round back and forth. The more skilled man getting involved in a war. Absolutely breath taking fight and ultra competitive.
yes it was a very good fight

canelo legit won a very close one vs ggg, and fury going down twice imo means it wasnt the best performance , for example usyk utterly clowned and 12-0'd a dangerous ko puncher without any of that. i had fury winning, but with the kds and indecisive early rounds i think a draw was feasible, though i know that topics been done to death

No disprespect to you Klit.

But I don’t get how anyone thinks it was a FOTY.. it was a shït fight. It was a one-sided beatdown. The story might be decent. And the KO was sweet but most of the fight was just Chisora against the ropes with Takam punching his head in, eventually getting tired.

1. Fury-Wilder
2. Canelo-GGG 2
3. Loma-Linares
4. Gassiev-Dorticos
5. Usyk-Briedis
6. Povetkin-Price
7. Wilder-Ortiz
8. Joshua-Povetkin
9. Helenius-Teper
10. Kownacki-Martin

Fury-Wilder is inarguably best for me because of its intensity and clash of styles nature.
Hurd/Lara?
FINALLY. Yes. Without a doubt the best fight of the year was Hurd vs Lara. I don’t even think another was close. Hurd won via 12th Round knockdown. You can’t get any more dramatic then that. Especially with so much on the line for the lineal championship.

Fight swung both ways, plenty of action. Beautiful footwork, defence and offence. Variety of punches and combinations. Basically all I could ask for on the sport of boxing- and it finished outside the judges hands :OhYes:
I'd have to concur. Can't think of any fight this year that was more satisfying in all areas.
Thirdsies. The amount of skill on display and the pace was phenomenal. Add in the drama of both knockdowns.

GGG-Canelo 2 was really a great fight, Linares-Loma was too, Berchelt-Roman was as well.

No clear cut #1 for me, but I'd give it to GGG-Canelo 2 because they had the most expectations and went beyond that.

For me, it’s either:

• Tony Bellew V Oleksandr Usyk

Or

• Deontay Wilder V Tyson Fury
