Re: Popularity of boxing in world
India has a population of 1.4 billion! And millions upon millions living around the world and descendants
Yet have never even had a single world champion ever or a single olympic gold or world championship gold medalist ever
Aint nobody can ever make an excuse for that one. They are simply fornicating hopelessly terrible at boxing no matter how hard they try. Exact same story as in football.

Portugal Honduras and Denmark all have very tiny populations in comparison to India yet you put them in the same sentence lol ! India has double the population of the whole of Europe combined!
Denmark have at least had Mikkel Kessler and the Bredahl brothers as world champions

Some snowflakes really talk rubbish. There is trends and clear differences when it comes to nations/regions/continents/races.
For example Jamaica are the best at sprinting.

For example Jamaica are the best at sprinting, yet are poor at almost everything else.
Russia and Ukraine are excellent at Boxing and fighting sports, but not good at football.

well said... there are boxing nations, football nations etc, it's not just that some people are good and others are bad. for example China has like 130x population of Portugal so i guess that at least 10x people trains (and trains professionally) football in China than in Portugal but still Portugal is much better.Skalamanga wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 13:31 India has a population of 1.4 billion! Turkish born boxer Avni Yildirim (21-1, 12 KO's) is fighting Anthony Dirrell (32-1-1, 24 KO's) in Minneapolis MN on Feb 23rd ...... It's for the vacant WBC Super middleweight title.Skalamanga wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 13:32 Turkey also have never even had a single world champion ever. They have always been terrible at boxing.
Selcuk Aydin and Sinan Samil Sam were pretty decent. Atagun Yalcinkaya earned a silver medal in Athens 2004 and went (4-0, 4 KO's) as a pro.

Sadly, spousal abuser and cold blooded murderer Edwin Valero (27-0, 27 KO's) first came to my mind.

He isn’t even top 10. They’ve had quite a few tbh. But all below Welterweight.
Re: Popularity of boxing in world
Intersting ... Edwin Valero is not even ranked on Boxrec. It's like he never existed.

I guess I should have ran that too. Not sure why I'm responding anyway.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:25http://boxrec.com/en/ratings?wnG%5Bcoun ... %5D=&r_go=

I’m not saying anything bad mate. Linares is a good name to mention. He get’s mainstream attention. But by the looks of it, there have been some other good names in the past eh?oogiebe wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:27I guess I should have ran that too. Re: Popularity of boxing in world
I was just saying I should have thought of it. Valero is no where in the first 50 which by the names on the list, I find weird. There were more names on the list than I figured, but we can't remember everything, although some posters think they do! Nicaragua would be interesting to see.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:30I’m not saying anything bad mate. Linares is a good name to mention. He get’s mainstream attention. Valero unfortunately wasn’t able to accumulate enough BoxRec points as he had a short career.oogiebe wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:37I was just saying I should have thought of it. Re: Popularity of boxing in world
I think boxing is biggest here in the UK, it's also big in Ukraine, Mexico, Russia, USA, but mma is seeing a lot more of a rise too
I know people who hated mma, had no respect for it and called it things like "two men f*cking each other in a cage"
but they now follow mma a lot more than boxing. I think mma is shedding its undisciplined image regarding fights an the fighters and fights are getting more technically savvy an people are warning too it more and they also prefer the matchmaking and general attitude of the fighters
Both are still niche sports, but boxing is definitely a minority sport, even here in the uk where it's a big deal, it's still nowhere near as popular as it used to be, or should be

Agreed. When I first saw MMA (many, many years ago) it was sort of what you would expect had WWE been full contact. Now it's much more skill based and structured, in comparison. I can't say where its popularity is at this point, but I know it's a fast growing business.Oiky wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:47 I think boxing is biggest here in the UK, it's also big in Ukraine, Mexico, Russia, USA, but mma is seeing a lot more of a rise too

Yeh. There was lots of talk it was gonna take out WWE or something. Because it was real wrestling and not scripted. It was never really compared to boxing around that time. I’m talking like 2008-9. Wrestlers were always switching to MMA. Lesnar, Punk, Batista.oogiebe wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:50Agreed. Re: Popularity of boxing in world
Yea MMA of today is much more skill based, now there is so many technical fighters about who make "fighting" in the cage look as good, and smooth as a seasoned pugilist does in his boxing ringoogiebe wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:50Agreed. Re: Popularity of boxing in world
You have VERY low standards if you think they are respectable answers/worth mentioning. None of those were world champions or world class. When those mediocre/poor fighters are your best ever fighters from a country of 80 million that tells you everything.chuck9788 wrote: ↑07 Jan 2019, 14:02Turkish born boxer Avni Yildirim (21-1, 12 KO's) is fighting Anthony Dirrell (32-1-1, 24 KO's) in Minneapolis MN on Feb 23rd ......
