WBA ALLOWS TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED BOXER TO FIGHT FOR WORLD TITLE

"WBA ALLOWS TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED BOXER TO FIGHT FOR WORLD TITLE"

Coming off a loss to Claressa Shields at middleweight, Hanna Gabriels will return to the junior middleweight division to defend her WBA championship against Australia's Sarah Dwyer, who is just 3-4-2 as a pro! Dwyer is coming off a draw and according to Boxrec, all three of her wins came against women who never won a pro boxing match! The Nicaraguan capital of Managua will host this match-up this weekend. Gabriels (18-2-1) has held the WBA 154-pound title since 2016 when she defeated the Uruguayan native Katia Alvarino.

Thoughts? :-?

Shock! Horror! :o

The WBA have sanctioned Fres Oquendo as valid world title challenger, so I guess anything goes with that organisation!

And before anyone tries to remind me, I know they're legally obliged to do this due to their own incompetency. :brick:

The talent pool is pretty thin with Women's Boxing. Chances are there's only like 30 or 40 active fighters in that weight class among women.

Meh. We're accustomed to particular ABC sanctioning bodies only featuring like one-fifth of the division in their rankings, and sometimes seeing fighters in a top 15 ABC ranking who are not top 100 on boxrec. We are accustomed to seeing male champions defend their belts against opponents outside the top 25, like Gerald Washington, Artur Szpilka, Eric Molina, and Chris Arreola. There's only 38 women in the super welterweight division, and Sarah Dwyer is #17, so... whatcha gonna do?
